Hoedt should be at the bottom. It's making needless mistakes that hasn't endeared him to me. He'll make an excellent tackle and then not lay off the simple ball and give away possession when he needn't do so. If you're going to do Fancy Dan stuff, do it at the other end of the pitch, not in and around our penalty area.
And yet people on here were almost universally praising Hughes for ditching the back three during the Burnley game. We went from zero attacking threat, and utter boredom, to looking half decent. Every other comment on here, pretty much, was along the lines of "now lets hope Hughes never returns to a back three". I'm not saying whether he was right or wrong to ditch the back three, just that at the time people were in support of him ditching it. Meanwhile, seeing as though you're sort of asked the question, our CBs in the league read: Stephens-Vestergaard-Hoedt (0 goals conceded v Burnley - switch to a back four during the game, with Stephens moved to RB) Stephens-Hoedt (2 goals conceded v Everton) Vestergaard-Hoedt (2 goals conceded v Leicester) Vestergaard-Hoedt (0 goals conceded v Palace) Vestergaard-Hoedt (2 goals conceded v Brighton) Vestergaard-Hoedt (3 goals conceded v Liverpool) Vestergaard-Hoedt (2 goals conceded v Wolves) Bednarek-Yoshida-Hoedt (3 goals conceded v Chelsea - switch to a back four during the game, with Bednarek subbed off) Stephens-Hoedt (0 goals conceded v Bmouth) Stephens-Hoedt (0 goals conceded v Newcastle) Stephens-Hoedt (6 goals conceded v City) Yoshida-Hoedt (1 goal conceded v Watford) Yoshida-Hoedt (3 goals conceded v Fulham) Stephens-Yoshida-Vestergaard (2 goals conceded v Utd) Stephens-Yoshida (3 goals conceded v Spurs) Bednarek-Vestergaard (1 goal conceded v Cardiff) So we've twice seen the same picks for more than two games in a row. The Vestergaard-Hoedt pick was ended after Vestergaard's awful display away to Wolves. The Stephens-Hoedt pick was ended after the Man City mauling. A total of four clean sheets - all of which Hoedt played in...
<< Bednarek-Yoshida-Hoedt (3 goals conceded v Chelsea - switch to a back four during the game, with Bednarek subbed off) - >> which happened with Bed subbed at half-time with Chel just the 1 up, us bringing on Rom with the change of formation Good bit of work, compiling all those stats...
Attitude should be as important as competency and ability, - if, as it has been suggested, that there IS an attitude problem with a particular player, and that doesnt change (very very quickly) then i.m.o, that person doesnt fit in. End of. It is another common problem that seems to have plagued us over the last three or four years. we cannot keep on suffering the consequences.
Great work to put that together, surprised about Vest-Hoedt run going as long as it did but I thought Vestergaard got dropped for the Liverpool match?
Bednarek Stephens Yoshi Vesti Hoedt Not much between them and my mind changes week in week out with them which isn't great
Pretty much my view, and it’s a tribute to Ralph that Vestergaard is so high up that list. He does have his moments though! That time in the first half when he went on a run with the ball into their half, totally ignoring the cries of “Man on!” from the entire team and Ralph, and Polish Jan had to bail him out. Popped up on the left wing at one point second half too! Apart from that he is increasingly solid in defence.
