As per the title, rate our CB's from best to worst. For me;

Maya
Vestergard
Beddy
Hoedt
Stephens

Though could see the top two swapping during the season.

Interested to see others...

Its a pretty poor state of affairs where a premier league team has Maya listed as their best cb. Even more so when they have just sold one for £75 million.

Maya
Vestegaard
Bednarek
Stephens
Hoedt

Yoshida's always had talent it's his concentration that lets him down but having a commanding parter has helped with that in the past. So I'm hopeful he and vestergaard might make a good partnership and cover each other's weaknesses.

Think people forget how solid Stephen's looked when he first came into the team alongside a competent centre back partner.

Playing with Hoedt will do no favours for anyone.

Those listed all above

Chris Smalling
Eric Bailly
Victor Lindelof
Phil Jones

We think we have problems on the budget we have..

A bit soon to rate the tall guy but I have no problem if Maya started every game. Think Bednarek looks quite promising too.

Maya (because he is most experienced and for general niceness; prone to the odd slip, but that's true of all our CBs).
Vestergaard (more hope really as we haven't seen enough to properly judge, but he looks like a CB and has long hair like VVD and the early Fonte).

Not sure about the rest.

Stephens: young and needs to play next to a secure CB to improve his confidence; good luck with that, lad.
Bednerak: no idea, but seems to have done a job when called on.
Hoedt: looked alright the few times I've seen him, but I know you all have doubts about him.

Maya must be given starts IMO.

Interesting blog from the Ugly Inside about this very question. The author feels strongly that Hoedt is being a whipping boy this season without justification and suggests he was a better player on Saturday than Vestergaard. Suggests that the poor positioning he is accused of is probably down to covering for others. He certainly got the short straw when he was sold the story that he would be playing next to a committed VVD, not a sulky one waiting for a move.

For my two pennorth, I thought Hoedt was good in the Burnley game. Showed real commitment and tackled well. I may be forming an opinion based on a couple of good things he did right in front of me, but then don't the naysayers form opinions based on a few errors. Going to have to trust Hughes on this...he will play Vestergaard because he has to give him a chance to prove himself, so a case of who plays with him.

Vestergard
Hoedt
Bednarak
Yoshi
Stevens

To be honest I see little difference between Hoedt and Bednarak and Yoshi for me is up there too. If Yoshi was put in for the other two it wouldn't worry me a bit. Stevens in my opinion is not developing as much as I hoped. Perhaps he should be moved into defensive midfield.

From what I’ve seen so far:

Yoshida
Vestergaard
Bednarek
Hoedt
Stephens

If we are going to keep Stephens we should really play him as a DM, which is where he spent a lot of his time at Swindon. He looks good going forward, but apart from one fantastic tackle on Origi at Anfield (the one giving away the corner that led to Long scoring) he can’t defend as a CB should.

There always has to be a scapegoat. I was disgusted with some "fans" hostile attitude towards Guly during the Championship promotion season.
