Where will it stop?
I can see us all driving electric cars and there will still be people trying to stop them because of what they see as pollution in manufacturing and running them.

"I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think; I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech and freedom of choice. I'm the kind of guy who likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecued ribs with the side order of gravy fries?" I WANT high cholesterol. I wanna eat bacon and butter and BUCKETS of cheese, okay? I want to smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section. I want to run through the streets naked with green Jell-o all over my body reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly might feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiener".

I can really see it turning out that way. The health fascists are working to an agenda, starting with the smokers. Alcohol and food are next on their hit-lists but the sheeple are too blind to see it. There should have been uproar when the smoking bans were first implemented, but the apathy in this country is unbelievable. Bit by bit by bit, we're slowly having our freedoms eroded. Edgar Friendlys future world is becoming a reality.

To be fair mate, nobody with any level of intelligence whatsoever can argue with the facts that people are trying to run our lives, nobody!

The 'drain on the NHS' argument is moot, more than cancelled out via taxation, and many have private health care anyway.

I do fully appreciate people not wanting to breathe smoke/stink of snout, but then, if we had a choice, they'd STILL have a choice!

This...exactly! <ok>

in fact, In 2008 the Dutch government looked into the cost of treating people from the age of 20 to death. They had three categories, the healthy, obese and smokers. The results were not what the health gurus were looking for.

The lifetime costs were in Euros:

Healthy: 281,000

Obese: 250,000

Smokers: 220,000

It really is quite dishonest of the anti smokers to say that smoking is a burden on society.

See Davros, I smoke 20 a day, but I also play football, do a little bit of exercise, and would absolutely class myself as healthy.

I also drink, and that certainly does me more damage than the tabs, but that's a nice social thing that most people do, so that's ok!

I wouldn't go as far as that, but if I had my way I would certainly ban fuel guzzling air polluters which are proven to be one of the biggest contributers to the huge rise in the number of people with asthma..
PS..Personally I would love to own a Nissan Leaf electric vehicle, but they are just too damn expensive...

You'd hate me mate, I drink, I smoke, and I drive a 3.0, haha.

It's a diesel like, but it does have a ****ing massive turbo attached to it!

Noooooooooo!!!!!!.You absolute bounder you...<grr>

PS....I love a drink mind...<ok>

Ha.

To be fair mate, I'd imagine the hydrogen cars that they have in California are what we'll all end up driving, I vowed I'd never have a diesel, but now I wouldn't have a petrol, so I won't make any bold predictions about my likely wheels in 10 years!

I'll still be smoking & drinking though, I can confidently say this.

You keep smoking kidda! Theres too many health benefits you'd be losing out on if you quit...not that you hear about them from our anti-smoking fed media!

I will contimue to smoke because I love my tabs mate, regardless of health issues positive or negative!

If I like summat, I do it, I'm simple like that ;)

there are some benefits (seemingly)

1. Smoking lowers risk of knee-replacement surgery
2. Smoking lowers risk of Parkinson's disease
3. Smoking lowers risk of obesity
4. Smoking lowers risk of death after some heart attacks
5. Smoking helps the heart drug clopidogrel work better

I loved smoking but i only loved it because I was addicted to the things, I just said to myself, I am in ****ing control and quit cold turkey :)

I do hope your tongue was firmly in your cheek when you wrote this mate...

My tongue was most certainly in the centre of my mouth MrRAW :)
As well as those kindly listed above by blackcatsteve, there's also evidence to show that smoking lowers the risk of skin cancer http://www.dermatologyupdate.com.au/latest-news/smoking-lowers-skin-cancer-risk

and Nicotine boosts attention, precision, motor skills, speed and memory.
http://dengulenegl.dk/English/Nicotine.html.

Smoking during pregnancy reduces the risk of preeclampsia (one of the leading causes of maternal and infant mortality and morbidity worldwide) by up to 50% http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17127256?dopt=Abstract

Also, did you know that children of mothers who smoke at least 15 cigarettes a day tend to have lower odds for suffering from allergic rhino-conjunctivitis, allergic asthma, atopic eczema and food allergy, compared to children of mothers who had never smoked. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11422156

You may be wondering how I know all this?....Well, since 1st July 2007 (the start of the UK smoking ban), when, overnight, I was transformed from a 'normal' bloke to an outcast and a leper, I've done huge ammounts of research into all things tobacco....to try to discover just what lay behind the smoking bans.
My findings, were, absolutely mindblowing! Suffice to say, it's all about money and absolutely NOTHING to do with health. The zealots at tobacco control have full control over the media, medical organisations and even governments. What I have discovered; is don't believe a single word that comes from this evil organisation, without first looking at the research behind it. People the world over are being brainwashed and deceived on a biblical scale.

If anyone has any queries, I'll be more than happy to try and answer them.

I think that your evidence comes from research paid for by pro-smoking groups marra...99.9% of scientific research would say otherwise..

Not so MrRaW. These benefits have been known by medical experts and scientists worldwide for many years in some cases. It's just that the media has been 'gagged' in reporting anything positive about tobacco.
Indeed, a lot of scientists are scared to report their findings until after retirement. There's been many cases of honest...and in a lot of cases, anti-smoking, scientists being blacklisted and having their funding pulled for failing to come up with the 'right' answers. It's all an idealogical and political 'game' to those in tobacco control.
Here's a list, for example, of what scientists are really saying about the 'dangers' of second hand smoke. It really is disturbing how those in tobacco control can wield so much power. http://tctactics.org/index.php/Critical_Scientists

What you have to remember MrRaW, is that there are two players in the nicotine market...tobacco companies and the huge Pharmaceutical cartels. Glaxo Kline, Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson etc are making billions of dollars selling their 'worthless' nicotine replacement therapies...patches, gums, sprays etc. There's over a billion smokers in the world, and these huge cartels are giving massive funding to anti-smoking organisations to get people to quit and go on their NRT. Thats why there is so many anti-smoking campaigns. They need results to appease their Big Pharma paymasters, otherwise they'll be joining the dole queue. Once you find out what's going on behind the scenes, it really is quite disgusting, and very, very disturbing.

Just thought I would join you on your rant...

The reason you can not have your pubs for smokers is because successive governments in this country have tried to do their utmost to destroy anything that was ever associated with the working classes. Taxing our traditional watering holes into extinction and then after realising that same taxation was failing to prevent us smoking, decided to ban it instead. Only after brain washing most of the population into being perfume smelling, health conscious, wannabe's. Yet while allowing the fast food outlets strangely to expand over the last 2-3 decades at an alarming rate (the power of McDonalds), we are not allowed the simple extractors that would clear the air indoors to allow non smokers and smokers to breath freely together, instead they would rather have us all gathering under some shelter, to suck in an even higher level of smoke content than they were ever protecting us from, while the few pubs left remain empty inside. Do not worry though the government continue to have our well being at heart (excuse the pun), now they are going to ensure their is a minimum price on alcohol. Tie this in with all the legislation already in football stadiums, no standing, no smoking, no drinking alcohol in view of the pitch and a camera watching your every behaviour you eventually realise the nanny state has already taken over. Anyway at least we will all happily live much longer, enabling us to work longer and pay more taxes and instead of passing on our inheritance, we will be able to pass it on to our private care homes that are nursing us while we all die gracefully peeing our pants.

I am voting brb!

The problem is its not the Nicotine that harms you, thats just the addictive part of the cig, its the rest of the crap in a cig like the tar, arsenic, Formaldehyde etc etc. Which is why these nicotine patches are a good idea, but then I always felt that if i went on them, I would still be addicted to the nicotine so may as well just keep smoking or go cold turkey (which i did).

Now I am not going to tell ppl they shouldnt smoke, apart from my wife but thats just because she spends a fortune on them, more than any other issues, and both sides have this argument Someone pays them for the research so its bogus, no one can say with any proof who is right and who is wrong.

All I know from a personal point of View and I did smoke 20+ a day for the best part of 30 years, quitting is the best thing I have done, will I start again, I hope not but the chance is always there, 1 cig which I know will taste like crap will be enough to get me hooked again, and thats all it is, an addiction, you can kid yourself (like i did for 30 years) and say its not, you just like it, but it is an addiction, if you just liked it you wouldnt smoke 20+ a day, you could go a week or 10 without one, then have 1-1000, then go another week or 10 without one, but i bet 99% of smokers cant do that.

+ it is minging, even when I smoked i hated eating with a smoker in the same room or getting on a bus with a smoker at the back.

Good for you for quitting Steve! Personally, I enjoy smoking and am too stuborn to give in to the health nazis!
By the way, those patches WOULD be a good idea...if they worked! As explained above, these anti-smoking organisations will do everything in their power to get you on their NRT. What they DON'T tell you, is over a one year period, these patches and gums have a 98.4% FAILURE rate! Basically, they don't work, which suits their big pharma producers down to a tee. There's actually a higher quit rate by going cold turkey!
The most successful smoking cessation products on the market...by a long way, is the electronic cigarette...less harmful than a cup of coffee and entirely safe for the user and those in the immediate vicinity.
Ask yourself this, "Why are the anti-smoking 'health' organisations not promoting e-cigs? Why are they trying to get them banned?"
The answer is simple...there's no profit in them for their Big Pharma paymasters and they pose a real risk to their profits.
As I've stated before IT'S NOT ABOUT HEALTH!...regardless of what we're told by the health fascists. Its about money...always has been, always will be, and quite frankly, it's disgusting.
