Ideally or realistically? Ideally I'd like Marcelo Gallardo. Modern thinker with proven track record - get him before he arrives in Europe. I'm not sure he'd fancy the challenge here though. Or Bielsa who taught Gallardo and Pochettino. Realistically? I honestly don't know what is realistic anymore. I'd be surprised if Benitez was interested so I'm at a loss to work out what is possible. I just could see it ending in tears with Benitez, I'm not sure his negative style would enthral the fans, he is a bit of a lone thinker with how he utilises players etc. I suppose all that really matters to most fans is results of course. I think he does get what I would call almost "working class" clubs where it is a massive part of the city.
Its better than spunking over McClaren only to find you give him 80m odd in transfer fees, control of the transfers, yet only manage to keep one club below you all season. Alan is a demi god in comparison. As Rafa would say "Fact"
So, looks pretty certain Rafa is in, and McClaren is out. Only question is, when the **** are they sacking that useless waste of space Graham Carr
Carr needs pensioning off. Offer him a villa in the South of France next to a young boys academy. He seems to have a hard on for young French lads.
If only the fckwits had done this at Xmas. McClaren overseeing things like development and having a hand in recruitment ahead of Carr is a brilliant idea. I think McClaren's record on players is pretty good overall and having him take the lead on the non-first team stuff could be hugely rewarding. I think he's a positive bloke - he's just not a manager in any way, shape or form. Him staying on this board is no problem for me and removing him from the first team is enough of a shot in the arm. I'd also like to think he's had a hand in that slight shift on transfer policy regarding Townsend and Shelvey. We'd look in good shape. I think Cathro will stay, we will just upgrade a few of the others who haven't worked out - but those changes won't happen until the Summer, well, depending on availability. Plus that WILL cost us money. I'm seriously excited. If only we weren't getting relegated I'd crack open a bottle of urine recyc' (in line with the Kryten reference earlier).
McClaren as a sort of DoF/ development guy is a masterstroke if that is what happens. Look he's not a manager, but as a coach he is respected. Behind the scenes out of the spotlight is what he should stick to. I don't have a problem with the man, just the man pretending to be a manager.
According to Spanish radio station Cadena Copa, Benitez has agreed a three-year deal to become Newcastle boss before the end of the season. Well done lads got a proper manager at last, lets hope you can squeeze the Mackems back into the drop box, they have escaped the drop far too many times, love to see you boys stay up, far more classy than the Mackems................
If this all comes off, then there's absolutely nothing more the club could have done - well, at this stage. Perhaps NOT employing McClaren or getting rid at Xmas or getting rid during the 18 day break might have been a good plan, but in the absence of a time machine the thought of Lee Charnley getting Rafael Benitez into the club is nothing short of mind-blowing. Remember we've had Kinnear, Hughton (he did well, of course, but at the time? Meh!), Pardew, Carver, McClaren.
I get what your saying mate, but he is seriously out on his own in terms of the managers we have been linked with. Results are all that matter in these last 10 games. IF he can install some much needed discipline into the team and start playing the right players in their correct positions then I feel he at least gives us a fighting chance of survival.
On Sky now, which means it's looking pretty solid............. Link: http://www.skysports.com/football/n...itez-in-talks-over-three-year-newcastle-deal?
He is quite a defensive minded manager, which I think is what we need. We leak so many ****e, sloppy, avoidable goals. If we could knock that on the head and get the defense sorted we have a half chance of staying up!
at least we're an english team in the english league. best put your wellies back on. your lass is running away.
Benitez has agreed to the deal. The hold up is that the club want to keep McClaren as head coach. Benitez wants his own backroom team to come in. He will be given full control of transfers and footballing decisions apparently.
