Who said Mike Ashley didn't care about our club, he's only gone and made sure the lads aren't out of work
Some twitter reports suggesting Steve will be moved upstairs in some capacity rather than sacked but Rafa still to come in as manager.
Yeah I can't see how you could release him now after 5 days of no movement, he must be staying on the board, which to be honest I'm not against. Has some good connections across Europe and the North and could help out in terms of youth development with Beardo. He must have been told yesterday during his phone call with Penfold judging by that grin on his face as he left training yesterday.
Yea I think it probably is the most logical explanation to this whole 'will he or wont he' be sacked saga that has been dragging on since the weekend. I agree with keeping him on and using his expertise in other ways. However, should we go down and Rafa walks away you just know he will be reinstated as 'head coach'
Meh for me but got to be better than McClaren if he does come. Gerrez - what do you reckon, obviously delivered big for you in his time there but was it all sweetness and roses? Can he cope with the shambles here?
This one has come like a bolt from the blue, but Rafa is meeting Charnley later. He's agreed a 3 year deal. It's unclear [as usual] as to McClaren, but I'm hearing he's leaving.
I'd be very pleased if it were at the start of a season, or even midway through. With 10 games left in our dire position it may not pay off. We do have a lot of pea hearted peacocks in our squad though who may temporarily respond well to a big name being put in charge.
I'll celebrate if/when this happens. Too many false dawns experienced to get carried away. God I hate what this club has done to my optimism!
Is this wise? Surely if he's fallen out with the players a la Carver, then we're best off getting rid? If we can keep him on as a coach then that's all good, if the constant "an outstanding coach but not a manager" claims are to be believed. I guess McClaren would snap Charnley's hand off if he was offered the coach role, after this, Derby and Forest in a row, no tam's gonna touch him with a barge pole as a manager now.
Could be a wise decision to have him connected with the running of the football club rather than the running of the team. We've always complained that MA has filled the top levels of the club with people who know nothing about football. For all his faults, McClaren does have a football background and understands the game - that's why he's a decent coach, even if he's a poor manager. Might appeal to Steve too as it means he keeps a job in football, he gets to continue to work on his project of changing the club (which he keeps banging on about having lots to change - correctly IMO), and we're in commuting distance of his home. Leave the club to Steve and the team to a proper manager.
