...Nardi... was no better overall than Begovic.

Oh no, Oslo: Begovic was truly awful and cost us a lot of goals (-7 if I recall the stats correctly).

IMO, Nardi is good, not brilliant: he started last season really well but then seemed to go off the boil slightly. I think he's a better shot stopper than one who claims crosses into the box. Nevertheless, I am surprised that he seems to have been replaced by Walsh. I've seen the latter a few times and been generally impressed but I'd want to see more before I could say he was better than Nardi. Clearly, our management have seen more than me (largely at Heston, I presume) and formed that opinion, although how you can judge outside of league matches, I don't know.

I think what people also have to remember is that Nardi was knee deep in **** many times last year because he had a god awful defence in front of him. I actually don't know how he saved a lot of shots he had no right to save.

And I'm not surprised that he made mistakes here and there because he was under a lot of pressure with all that responsibility and lack of support in front of him.

So is Nardi going to be the "Cup" keeper, that might just net him two games.....but perhaps he can inspire us to Cup runs!
I really would love to know what's going on with Nardi. No one can look at the 2 keepers and come to the conclusion that Walsh is the better one. If they aim to sell Nardi, why give him the #1 shirt?

Lots we don’t know. My theory is Nardi is old (not old old for a goalkeeper but also not a hugely valuable asset given his age and unlikely to improve) so they see developing Walsh (and Murphy and others lower down the order) as the right thing to do. Arguably Nardi is better right now but I don’t think there’s loads in it. Also just the stuff we don’t see like how they’re both training.

Moneyball innit.

That's a matter of opinion. I don't think there's anything between them to be fair. Both average keepers but one has potential and the other has reached it. It's all about value

Stephan was B-team manager at Rennes at the same time as Nardi was on loan there, playing for the B-team. Perhaps they had a falling out.

Or maybe Stephan just doesn't rate him.
