Game of two halves, 1st half I would like to see more of & we looked threatening every time we went forward, 2nd half we didn’t get going & very drab, disappointing but we didn’t lose as they looked like nicking it more than just, their bloke should’ve seen Red
Very disappointing. Celar was.completely anonymous and Burrell when he came on at least looked like he might make something happen. I find the Field/Madsen thing bewildering .Madsen had a decent game despite being in the wrong position, whilst Field looked like a fish out of water. Swap them round.
Our goals will come from doing something different to what just about every team does nowadays. Burrell came on and looked busy, useful and hungry but was totally isolated, nobody to feed off, nobody even to his side. 2 up top would shake some teams this season as it's so unexpected in this strange modern formation.
The majority of touches Celar has, have to go backwards, same when Burrell came on. They could potentially forge a great partnership but those days seem to be long gone.
I didn’t think we were that good first half, certainly didn’t make many chances. Second half best forgotten. Liked the young Brazilian, Mbengue was solid and very vocal at the back, a leader. Morgan did well as a makeshift RB. No idea why Adamson who looked ok playing out of position didn’t start at RB. Burrell when he came on very lively and determined though he had no chances. Dembele and Poku had good moments but not consistently. Walsh was a bit of a nightmare especially with distribution. Madsen had an easy afternoon because the of the opposition and made some decent passes but he doesn’t have the energy or physical presence to play in this league. I thought Chair had a poor game predictable and slow. Any CB facing poor old Celar has the afternoon off. He was exactly the same as last season, slow, miles off the ball, zero threat. Field didn’t do much either. Play like this against some of the stronger teams and we’ll be well beaten. Glimmer of hope in some of the new players and a returning Varane and Dunne. And I’ve tried to stay out of the GK debate but Nardi would make me feel much less tense. Early days.
Some good, some bad. I’m sure that XI won’t be seen again. Just the two more injuries to key players and unfortunately neither were Celar. He needs to be ****ed off for one of the other options very quickly. Loved Mbengue. Match overall best forgotten. Onwards and upwards to Tuesday’s injuries and sideshow of a football match.
Game of two halves. Having said that we didn't really make much in the first half although our football was good. Our goal was Dembele..brilliant well deserved.. Second half..was nearly all Preston...although they didn't make much either. Their goal was awful. We get a corner..goes straight to their keeper who punts it up the middle . On running forward punts it over Walsh into a open goal. So much wrong with it. So....Walsh as well as being so wrong for their goal did not distribute well. Not impressed. Morgan did well as RB. Esquerdinha was a real live wire. Mbengue looked so solid Dembele was excellent,Poku was not bad but faded Field was Field..probably better than he appears as he does a lot of covering. If Madsen was supposed to be the lynch pin..he wasn't. Chair was poor for Chair but was trying to do too much. Celar..just stands around. Burrell was instantly better. This is not a bad team...and could click when Varane and Dunne...and Nardi are back
Well, I predicted 2 goals in the game, but none for them. 1st half ok, only a couple of threats from them, more from us but lacking a little in the last third. Dembele looked sharp, Mbemgue looks a great buy and loved Burrell’s energy and pace. Nuff said about the referee, and the sh**housery for the last 20 minutes. The shout for a red card looked nailed on in realtime, did the ref bottle it? Their keeper made a solid save when it looked destined for the side netting. Other than the result, it was a good day out - several beers in the DW with Beth, Terry and Iain, sb and others. Now drowning sorrows in the C&S over a few Prides before the bus back to West Country. thanks Wubba for the spot in safe standing, you have a great view…
Apart from his bizarre phobia of crosses, I expect with two young keepers of our own they want him out and off the wage bill. Only a guess but if it’s the case it’s a bit of a mess
I thought Walsh should gave done better for their goal. As the freak pass bounced, I was shouting for him to stay in his goal. As soon as he advanced it was easy for the forward to lob him. If he stays on the six yard line, the fella would have had to bring it down, giving Walsh time to get out to his feet.
1 game in but still much the same as the past 40 odd games. Few more seasons before we find out what plan 'b' is.
Or at the very least the striker has to think more about how he finishes. Walsh made that decision for him.
Only seen it at the time from the other end. Looked like the defender should have cut it out. Maybe not.
Its a weird situation they've created, Nardi a well like player and 2nd in the end of season polls. Nourry when quizzed on it was adamant Stephan picks the team but it screams of a Nourry diktat especially considering there were stories weeks ago saying they were going to force Nardi out. Personally I'd have sent Walsh out of loan and had Murphy in.
Madsen was streets better than I've seen him before, heavily involved and played a lot of intelligent forward passes. Field was exactly as I've always seen him before, rarely available for the ball to alleviate a press and always looking backward when in possession. At minimum, they clearly need swapping round but if we ever get clear of an injury crisis I would only have Field on when a lead needs defending. Mbengue was excellent Poku and Esquerdinha showed real promise. Dembele can be brilliant but is made of glass. Celar is not a footballer let alone a striker.
Need to lose Celar and Madsen and try plan B Chair and Field will have better days The rest showed promise New guys made a good start
Madsen did better but from a position of having not to do that much or what we were told he is capable of. He played as the holding midfielder but luckily for him, he didn't really have to tackle or over work himself, he then played simple 4/5 yard passes, usually sideways. I wouldn't play him there in just about any other game this season. I hope I'm proved wrong though.
