Short termness. I wish he would keep quiet. He took us over when we were in the Premier league. Look where we are now. A club going backwards. Would love someone, anyone to state facts that prove it wrong.
Given time and space they are still among the best group in the division but as coaches cotton on to our inability to deal with a press they become increasingly irrelevant. Despite a big improvement this season Luongo in particular is still a hugely frustrating player and often plays far too high up the pitch to provide the link from defence to attack that is desperately needed. I lost count of the number of times Robinson (excellent again) came forward with the ball yesterday only to have to turn back for lack of options. This is a tactical issue down to the manager IMO.
I must admit that I'm beginning to lose patience with TF and his stupid tweeting, the short termism tweet really takes the biscuit when every decision he's made in the last 5 years has been looking no further than short term........
Have only seen the highlights on TV. First goal - no marking or man on far post. Second goal...great shot but he wasn't closed down. Third goal ran through two players and scored. Tony Pulis always plays with big players as he plays the percentage game from dead ball situations and crosses. I think Ollie has a real job on his hands to move players on and get some cash to spend on replacements. I only hope that we stay up and then look to bring in (or develop) some youngsters that want to help the club move up the table
Think it was only 5 minutes. We had no threat 1st half after an OK start, and obviously needed to bring on a big man up front, and equally obviously someone to play wide but Ollie forgot that part.
We have beaten Wolves, Sheffield Utd, and Cardiff who have all been higher up the League than Boro yesterday. While Boro were good, we really disappointed. I was always sceptical of Ollie''s appointment and his all for early attitude that we were safe last season nearly got us relegated, and I thought he was lucky not to lose his job in the summer. This season our previous energetic performanced and gradual introduction of youngsters have been encouraging. Ollie should know a whole lot more than me but his selections continually baffle. We beat a weak Burton last week by out playing them through the middle of the park, but after 20 minutes yesterday it was obvious we couldn't do that with a much stronger well organised Pulis defence. Our attacks from central midfield frequently ended when we tried to play in Washington and then Samuel through the channels, but did we try to stretch wide to get behind them, to get in some crosses for the big man he brought on - No. I thought we lost yesterday mainly because we played the wrong way, 2 shots on goal is a pathetic return at home.
There are a number of questions Ollie does/ will need to answer at some point is the issue he has with wingers. Especially as it seemed last summer that every player he bought apart from Scowen and Baptiste was a winger. Your point is well made and blindingly obvious. Why play a big man up front (sometimes) without having a proper winger. A wing back who hangs back, because he is concentrating overly on defence or is not fit enough to do that for 50-60 minute before being replaced by a like for like substitute is never going to be brave enough to venture as far as the opposition goal line. You and I can see that as well as most of his critics. After all isn't the point of 3 CBs that they can cover the flanks while the wing backs go marauding?
If we want to play genuine wingers surely we'd have to drop one of the midfield three seeing as none of them are wingers. Problem is they've been our main (though lately diminishing) bright spot. So i have some sympathy with Ollie there.
We went what looked on the stream like a narrow 4 -3 -3 in the 2nd half yesterday, with Conor, Smith and Samuel the front 3. I thought it may have worked better if Samuel had stayed well wide on either wing, but he didn't. Pawel playing wide in the front 3 instead of Samuel would have been a better substition imo.
TF's tweet was certainly ill judged but it's pretty clear now we are going to have to endure some more pain before we see any real gain. We can't afford to buy anyone of note, which is likely to be the case for a good while yet, so that leaves the young players as our main hope but they won't become superstars instantly. We really do need to be patient and lower expectations a little. We are in a transitional period as a club and I think we need to stick with it, let Ferdinand and Hoos get on with making us more sustainable and ignore our chairman's misplaced tweetings. Whether we agree or not Ollie isn't even remotely close to being axed so we might as well throw our energy into supporting the team and club. That said, you fellows who go every week probably feel the pain of poor performances more acutely than I ever could. I do wish we could temper some of the more extreme reactions with some rational thought though.
Been saying the same for weeks/months. Freeman has played a lot of his career on the wing. Let Luongo and scowen do the harassing and chasing and get the ball out wide to Pavel and Freeman. It really is quite simple holloway
I think a lot of the negative responses come from the abysmal tactics/selections Ollie makes. How many times do we find ourselves up against it due to the wrong starting line-up and then the wrong substitutions both tactically and player-wise? We get away with it against poorer teams but are often exposed against the better footballing teams. The surprise wins against Wolves, Sheff Utd and Cardiff could have been catalysts for improvement and kicking-on but we then put in crap peformances and revert to type. My main criticism is I see no discernable improvement in players and the same mistakes week after week, some cost us and some don't but the fragility of our form has us always looking over our shoulders, even when nine points clear of the drop-zone as we were before yesterday's game. Granted, we have had an awful time with injuries, particularly at the back and have more by luck than judgement found some workable alternatives but the football we are served up is often dreadful to watch and painful for those of us who saw our halcyon days. Many who criticise are diehard supporters who really want to see us improve, it's days like yesterday that drive us to distraction and then have to read TF's half-baked tweets to rub it in...
Rational thought to me would be realising that this whole formation/set up just doesn't cut it. The split between supporters realising that Holloway is out of his depth is growing week in week out. I loved travelling to away games but cant argue with my son about how shockingly poor we were. He made me take him to the Leeds game yesterday and he loved it. That's what fans and future fans want.......entertainment. Not somebody hoofing the ball long
Agree. No doubt he will hit back with 'I will leave if you don't want me', followed by many sad QPR fans saying 'please don't go TF, we love you'. This will then be followed by a few pictures of some new stadium or a training ground article to keep us happy for another two months.
He will have to face the music soon and work his magic to try and find a buyer that should be easy enough as long as he writes off all debts The time is coming and we could well sink down a path that posters may not be able to understand It remains for fans to come to terms with what has happened here We may never again play in the top flight So wise up
There are no wingers in the modern game can we at least make that clear Is everyone on here a Dinosaur?
We did lack width and decent crosses. After some recent good results, we are back to square one again regarding a lack of width. I expect to see a return to Paweł again next match. However our tactics are a bit “hit and miss”. We “missed” against Boro.
