I thought that Brum really lacked urgency today Having said that we worked hard and played some really good incisive stuff today Good young core to the team and at last players willing to take the opposition on We need Birmingham to stay up - some easy points to be had next season.....
Jack Supple @JTSupple Apr. 28, 2018 4:35:12 PM No Championship side has had more different players aged 20 or younger score a league goal for them this season than #QPR (5): Eze, Oteh, Smyth, Chair, BOS via Twitter Web Client
Good performance & boys done well, getting more impressed with Samuel by each game & good pace, Brum I thought was average, good 3 points to end with at home.
City were one of the poorest - if not the poorest - side we have seen at LR all season. But you can only beat what's in front of you and the kids did a great job of putting them to the sword. Great to see Holloway have faith in Furlong by using him (and Bidwell) as a makeshift centre-back. Even better to see Eze growing into the number 10 role as again and again he drifted past defenders with ease - if we can keep him we must surely build our attacking strategy around him next season. Kakay did okay and shows promise. Chair was lively and scored of course. Samuel made some great forward runs and just needs some poise to go with the pace. Manning was a bit wasted out wide but looked confident. Lumley made one mistake but was otherwise pretty solid. A thorn among these green shoots of progress however: if I ever have to watch Sylla pretend to be footballer again I may slash my wrists in the Ellerslie toilets.
Have to say now Eze has got some confidence he’s really looking a quality player. Need to pin some of these youngsters down for next season.
Great season Went to about 19 home games Most of them great fun Young players look good Wage bill down All working hard and playing for each other Lots of pace and skill Good competition for places Well done Ollie and Sir Les Already looking forwards to next season Just worried we will miss the 10/12 points we always get against Brum / Sunderland Build a team around Furlong Eze Smyth BOS Scowen
Very good to end on a high today. Hope to continue that against Leeds and finish above them. The Stewards did a great job. The rope was a good idea and they stopped about 12 little idiots who were trying to invade the pitch from R block. Just stupid. Have a good summer all!
Best end of (home) season for many a year...I hope the lads hold it together for one last match next week. I have enjoyed the evolution of this season a lot..... A long and winding road that went up and down....but seems now to be heading in the right direction. As said before ...today... I love my club... Sent from my STF-L09 using Tapatalk
Out all day had a bottle of vino and read the positive posts on here..... Good work by all..... Up the R's.
I have to work on Saturdays but I pay my £5 per month to get the radio commentary through the QPR app. Todays commentary sounded very encouraging and the comments on here back up what I heard live. I do have one question. Is the squad good enough for the youngsters to continue our progress next year (a higher finish and more points than this year). I'd like to believe the future is bright, the future is Blue and White.
I'm really pleased that we have some promising youngsters breaking through. I'm particularly impressed with what I've seen of Eze, who I see as our future 10. The club have done well to start to build from the bottom up, lose big wages and stop buying has-beens. Things will be tough for the next couple of seasons if the fair play thing stops us buying much. I'm still not convinced about Ollie, with his tinkering and experimenting. A settled side next season with a blend of the youngsters and some experience could see us improve on this season imo, but only if Ollie can resist all the experimenting and play players in their natural positions. I have to say well done to Ollie though, as he has managed to guide us through a difficult season. Plus we finally seem to have players who really want to play for our club.
Your last sentence sums up what Holloway brings to the club, Col. I think we all know he isn't the greatest tactician, but we also know that any team he puts out will battle till the last minute. There's a lot to be said for that.
A question for anyone who stayed got the end of season pitch parade.....did anyone see Holloway out there at all ? I couldn’t from the West Paddock....
Tony tweeting tonight about making hard decisions in the next few weeks if we are to improve.......whatever could he mean .
Holloway was too emotional to take to the pitch after the game. He left it up to the players to take the plaudits and the last hurrahs, Onuoha and Mackie. I think that losing his mother recently forced him to take a back seat. That was a great performance by our boys today, and when I say our boys our average age of the starting line-up was 23 years and 16 days. Despite the Birmingham goal we looked good, the back four and midfield were industrious and showed moments of flair and showed good character to fight back from a goal down to win 3-1. Chair was my man of the match, Furlong came of age and I think Bidwell will be our captain next season. We looked surprisingly good despite the reservations in the pub beforehand when we saw the team sheet and expected the worse. The only weak link was Sylla who has the control of a pin ball machine. All in all this was a surprisingly enjoyable open game ( even when it was 1-1 ) but as we improved Brum got worse and have suffered the curse of Redknapp. Good riddance. There was a really good feeling at the end of this game which was in stark contrast to the Preston and Brentford games. I still feel that we need to be innovative and be the first club to have a home manager and an away manager.
This morning I really want to "big-up" Freeman...I have never gone over board on him.I think he has "Denis Waterman" syndrome...write the theme tune, sing the theme tune, star in the show. He has the most assists because he does everything. But he really looked after Chair yesterday, always chatting, putting his arm round he when he gave away the Brum goal, walked chatting to him at HT, first to congratulate Chair when he scored. He was his minder ( see what I did there) Then when Mackie came on...Freeman was so looking to get him a goal...a perfect pass to Mackie was stopped by Stockdale...later on he got another pass through, when he could have shot..Mackie thanked him...real team spirit Freeman was the ultimate team player yesterday. He is a pro we need to keep to look after the youngsters, never thought I would say that as he is only 25 or 26 himself
It is without doubt that our away form has been excruciatingly poor (an average of 1.78pts per game at home; 0.68pts per game away). Our defensive frailties are just as clear - 68 goals against; while our scoring performance is in and around many other league teams. We are about to lose two key positions in our centre of defence, a part of that crucial spine;in a defensive line-up that has underperformed this season. There’s a long way to go to be in the higher reaches of this division - we would need to turn around 9 defeats into wins to be at the level of Aston Villa. It’s been a season of struggling for players and fans alike - with a definite division of fans over our club, our manager, our players, our team selections and our performances. There are, without doubt, areas and pliers that we can improve on. So definite positives there. We do have some youngsters who are coming through. So positives there too (and how long before the vultures come sniffing - if they do make sure that deals have the right clauses so we aren’t mugged off). These youngsters will need support as they develop into, what we hope, will be our players of the future. We also need to see some smart acquisitions by the manager/coaches/board. What we need is consistency. Definitely a level of consistency in our team selections - this tombola stuff is crazy. Certainly a consistency in our back line - we desperately need to perform better at the back - and as a unit. But we also need to see a consistency from the club/board - I think it’s there (an approach to acquire/develop young players; building top level training facilities); but we also need to be building and improving our coaching teams - I like the idea of bringing in ‘guest’ coaches who can add a little variety to training but also give developing players a little something extra to think about to improve their individual and team play - coaches for specialist areas (just as McLaren did during his short stint with us, it seemed to refresh things). C’mon R’s we all want success, and we’re all prepared to see it grow. Let’s iron out some of those highs/lows and build again. We’re QPR... we love a challenge... let’s build, unite and enjoy again!
I'm with you 100 % when you say we need a team with a blend of the youngsters and some experience. Great to see so many youngsters playing so well yesterday. Chair seemed to have added running and grit to the good ball and passing skills he showed earlier in the season. He both set up Samuel and scored. Kakay had another good game at RB. Furlong did OK at CB again though Brum gave our new composed and shortish defense remarkably little aerial threat. Eze was excellent, instigated many of our best moves and does more and more defensively. Lumley looks a good Keeper. I thought Sylla did well as a holding striker, winning and holding it up for the others and making space for them, but didn't get a sniff of goal. My MoM would be Freeman though, he played very well widish left where I've heard he's not so good. Shame my steam was so bad - my view of the game was frozen and off/on many times. Then they appeared to stop it altogether after Ned, Mackie and Perch with families came back out at the end. Still a great afternoon.
