C'mon Rangers.... There is more goals in this as they break very quick but leave space behind their back 4
Barnsley just seem sharper than us, better shape and always seem to have a man over. We're just off the pace...
We aren't doing badly. Barnsley are good, hoofing from the back, pressing high....we can get a point..if we don't give anything away
They've no nonsense at the back but look compact from the middle to front with quick closing down and fast movement.....
Go to the Stoke v Swansea game on the guide, on Sky sports football. Press record and our game will come up as a choice to record.
Over the last few games, we seem to have forgotten how to play a passing game. We used to be able to deal with pressure a bit better than this and keep the ball away from opposition. I feel like we keep trying to play the other teams at their own games. Why we think we can play long ball with the strikers we have is anyone's guess. In any case, we don't look too bad today. The first goal should have been dealt with better but the second goal was a great strike. No shame for Dieng in that.
Just a couple of observations, not just about this game... 1) Our attempt at a passing game is commendable but we don’t really have a calming influence that can slow things up from time to time. It’s all pass, pass, pass, pass. Would be nice if we had someone that could do that, give time for a bit more movement. 2) As good as he is at this level, Chair seldom tries to beat a man before a pass. He generally looks to play someone in with a threaded pass or, absent any decisive options, play back so as not to lose possession. All good and admirable, but it’s often that one moment in ten when you beat a guy in the final third that leads to goalscoring opportunity. Dunno whether he’s been told to play that way or not, but I’d like to see him take more risks with his game.
I'd take a point right now. Barnsley are horrible to play against. Hoofing it forward early and giving us little time on the ball. They look dangerous in the final third too. We've done ok, except we're looking dodgy from set pieces again. Wallace lost his man for their first. Their second was a superb free kick. It was central so very hard for Dieng. He had to cover the opposite side to the wall. Austin looks sharp with a goal and a great halve volley against the bar. He had another deflected over too. Dykes has won a lot of headers, but probably should have done better with that good cross from Kane. Stay in this second half and try to grab a point.
Another observation, this mindless obsession with playing a short goal kick to a centre half, who then panics, plays it back to the keeper who hoofs it, it has to stop! We arent good enough. Push the defenders up, narrow the pitch so we are not still in our own 18yrd box when possession is lost. Does my ****ing head in.
