I haven't seen anyone who was there say it was 3-5-2. Beth described it as an asymmetric 4-4-2, which is spot on. I don't suppose it matters too much if it was effective, which it was.
That may be on the official app, but it's not what happened on the official pitch. Wszolek played as a winger, ahead of Perch at RB.
Wasn’t there so can’t really comment but who says formations have to be symmetrical? Would rather Wzolek play as a winger than a defender. Would rather Robinson play as a left-back than a winger. Perchinho can fill the CB and RB roles so it all makes perfect sense.

I don’t like 4-4-2 (4–3-3 is my favourite line up, because that’s what Holland and QPR played in the seventies and I am a hopeless nostalgic fool, but it’s horses for courses) but 3-5-2 is insane if you don’t have any natural wing backs, or the ability to coach players into the role effectively (which obviously can be done - Valencia and Young at Utd, Moses at Chelsea). Mind you, I think even Guardiola would struggle turning Bidwell into a competent LWB.
I was there and my vote is firmly for 4-4-2. As others have said, Freeman moving inside may have confused matters but we looked much better for it NOT being 3-5-2, which is long discredited given the personnel available to us.
It was a strange game for me because 3 players who I struggle to rate highly played well: despite his long lay off, Perch looked solid and was combative without his trademark recklessness (he left that to the idiot Manning, one of the most uncontentious reds you'll ever see); the glacial Matt Smith, perhaps benefitting from the 4-4-2 formation, looked a little less statuesque than usual; and Lynch put in a man of the match performance, including a miraculous late clearance worthy of special mention.
Despite starting in his preferred central midfield role, Cousins proved what most of us have long suspected: he just isn't going to click for us and we should wave goodbye to him in the Summer. He was completely inconsequential.
Freeman skills were, as usual, a delight and Scowen's goal was one of the best we will score this season.
Bright's late substitute appearance - and particularly his pace - reeked of unfulfilled promise. I hope (but somehow doubt) that due notice has been taken with reference to the number of exciting fast breaks we made late in the game. This is what pace can do for us and regularly does against us. Unfortunately, the way QPR does 1:1 with the opposition goalkeeper means that we screw it up 5 times out of 5. Guilty parties? Washington (2), Wszolek and Osayi-Samuel. Washington deserves enormous credit for his work rate but, having seen him yesterday, I started to doubt whether he will ever score again, even if the opposition goalkeeper goes off mid-game for a *** break.
It was a game we could have drawn but could have won 4-0. An invaluable 3 points.

The official app is misinformation in my opinion.
Robinson played as LB, Wszolek played as an out and out winger. Perch was a standard RB with liitle impetus/desire to go forward (that is not a criticism, btw)
From top of the loft we could plainly see us holding a flat back 4.

The position we could not make out was Freeman's... he was not holding any sort of RW position, and had much more freedom as a sort right sided no 10
The thing is, natural wing-backs are a rare breed. It seems to me that it's easier to coach a winger to take on defensive responsibilities than it is to convert a full-back.
I was in the Ellerslie towards the school end and in the first half all the action was on the other side of the pitch through Perch and Wszolek . People were shouting at Robinson to move up the field and join in but he was on his own, Freeman was playing centrally.
I thought the defence did well today and looked quite solid for most of the game. The first half was a stinker and not much happened. I was half hoping that the death asteroid would hit planet earth to put us all out of our misery. The second half started with a bit more vibrancy ( why can't we do that in the first half? ) and while we were still yelling for an obvious penalty for a foul on Matt Smith Scowen hit a scorcher of a shot into the far corner which I was sat right behind. Beautiful.
The rest of the half was pretty standard championship fayre with the exception of four one on ones that failed to put the game to bed. Manning's red looked worse than it did due to the conditions but was still a red nonetheless. I was glad when the final whistle went.

If you look at the recent converts to the role, that would seem to be the case.
I think Dave Clement would have made a great wing back, but not really needed with Dave Thomas or Stan when he drifted into his ‘cut in from the right’ mode in front of him. Ian Gillard certainly not.

The non-empty seats show who the real fans are. There must be 'fans' who are waiting for us to play like Man City before they come and watch us againit may have been effective in the sense 3 points was very important, but the empty seats tells you the true picture of how awful it is watching Rangers at the moment
Careful! Bit of blue touch paper there. There are folk on here who would be most offended to be excluded from the core fan base yet who've declared they are not going to further games until Ollie gone or the footie improved or both. All sorts of reasons for empty seats but it was sad to see so many for whatever reason.
Andy Sinton do you? He was there as the regular side commentator on the official's stream and both him and the main commentator called it a 3 5 2 in the early part of the game, and commented on the change for Robinson playing at wing back. A bit odd though when he like you must be sitting high up and have a good overview.
Robinson may have appeared early on to have a wing-back role because there was no one ahead of him on the left hand side. In practice he hardly got forward at all, whilst Wszolek was an out-and-out winger with Perch at full-back.
