Problem is there are so many places called Avalon. Whilst googling I found the Avalon Peninsula - a sizeable part of Newfoundland, which looks a glorious place to visit some day. Other than that I'm not getting anywhere on this one.
 
I wondered if it was something to do with the company Avalon Productions who have produced some programmes for BBC, but looking at the clues that's unlikely. I'm not even sure if they're still going as I haven't seen them on the end credits of a programme for a while.

Yes... I checked their website too.... but no clear links to the clue...

John Hurt was born in the Chesterfield area.
Blues guitarist and singer, Mississippi John Hurt, was born in Avalon (and worth a listen for his finger-picking guitar work).
