An iron is used to make the sides of a violin, the steam to bend the wood. That’s not the answer, I’m sure, I just wanted to share that.

Well, I’ve got Man Ray for the violin, and Steichen for the Flatiron. The Flatiron one was taken and produced into a crude ‘colour’ photograph by adding colour.
Longshot. Is it Man Ray’s objet d’art entitled ‘Cadeau’ (1921), which is a flat iron with a load of nails protruding from it?

Le Violon d'Ingres is a black and white photograph, with model Kiki de Montparnasse being shown from the back. The picture with the tower is known as the Flatiron building.
