Cheers Yorkie. Mass production of which product began as the result of something made in a prison cell ?
All yours Yorkie. Apparently William Addis was imprisoned in 1770 for being accessory to riot and developed the toothbrush whilst there. Although variations of this had been used previously in other countries the common prison variant had been the use of crushed shells or soot He began the first mass production of toothbrushes in 1780.
OK... on the back of yours when and where and why was a rackets court the site of something really explosive
After the US entered the war a rackets court at the University of Chicago was used to test nuclear reactions in preparation for the bomb. So 1942 or 3, I should think. (As an aside my cousin was UK rackets champion or got to the final in the 70s. He said that it was a better game than squash.)
Thanks Yorkie. What links a legendary king, an auction item, and a (presumably) large amount of salt near the Dead Sea?
Arthurian legend says there was a King Lot. An item in an auction is a lot. Lot's wife was turned into a pillar of salt by the Dead Sea.?
In the 1500s the first legend appeared in Germany. In the 1700s it was taken to Pennsylvania with German settlers. It started out as one thing, but changed into something else. Nest making comes into the story. What is it?
From the clue of nest building I'll say it has something to do with German wedding traditions. Was it the practice of kidnapping the bride on the night before the wedding, where the bride has to search for her ? Which may have evolved into the hen night.
