A German friend of Mrs H says a bird's nest in the Christmas tree was supposed to bring prosperity for the coming year.
Given the vast amount of coloured tinfoil that has adorned our floors in the last couple of days, this is to do with Easter eggs.
That is so close I think you deserve it. What I was looking for was the Easter Bunny. I wondered just what it actually had to do with Easter. Seems that the legend in Germany was that hares laid coloured eggs in their nests. This was taken to the States and then imported back across the pond as a rabbit. Seems that in northern Europe the Easter hare is still the preferred choice. Over to you.
Thanks, ofh. Which two ex-Watford players were the first to be sent off against their old club in the same game?
I think I saw this one but could be my imagination. Sheffield United, Darius Henderson and a midfielder whose name I forget?
The other was Lee Williamson, I think...a name which popped into my head this morning as I occupied what a relative once called "the west wing thunderbox"! No obvious connection though! He looked as though he'd be a useful player with some skill when he first arrived.
What links Woody Guthrie, Henry Fonda, Bruce Springsteen, The Battle Hymn of the Republic and Rage Against the Machine?
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. Woody Guthrie, the Boss, and Rage Against the Machine were all inspired to write music by the 1939 film, starring Henry Fonda. The title of the book is from the lyric to ‘The Battle Hymn of the Republic’.
Spot on, Andy. Just finished reading it for I think the fourth time. One of my favourite books of all time...great characters, strong bonds, powerful sentiments, lyrical prose, great sense of place. I thoroughly recommend it!
Never read it. <smacked wrist> Will put it on my list. Our first was Mr Sharp in the 1890s, but it was the only one in that decade. There were three in the 1900s, but only one in the 1910s. Three in the 20s, only two in the 30s, two in the 40s, three in the 50s. There were four in the 60s, but the 70s had seven. There were nine in 80s, but thirty-seven in the 90s, the last of which was a certain Mr Cox. What were they?
