Never have wombat's bottoms been so searched for in google before ! I have heard that they have a kind of reinforced bum - made just of modified skin cells filled with cartilages. Some producers could be interested if looking for natural alternatives to non biodegradable plastics - but why rubbing I don't know. Possibly to warm up your hand on a cold day - like sticking your arm up a horse's arse.

My memories of wandering around Ku-ring-ai looking for wombats are that finding the b*ggers is tricky and reaching into the undergrowth to stroke anything would require very long arms. I don't suppose they excrete alcohol![]()
