That's it Andy. Klaus Martens redesigned army boots to be more comfortable after being injured in WW2. The Hammers were sponsored by the boot company for a while and renamed one of the stands to reflect the sponsorship which ended in 2009. Over to you...
Thanks, theo. We only won by a one goal margin. Our fourth goal, Bolton's, was a free-kick. But what was the order of the assists for the first three Watford goals?
Cheers andy.. What links these schools? Christ's College (Canterbury, New Zealand), Liverpool College, Magdalen College School (Oxford) and Westminster School.
Well I suppose I could delete the question and say 'No'... Or just say 'Not the answer I'm looking for'
The VC and bar has only been given to persons from these schools. I have to be honest and say I got that entirely from Yorkshire's lead, so he deserves the credit. Read up on one of them, about whom I once saw a documentary and I read up on him then, too - Charles Upham. Read the citations in the London Gazette about him. The type of man all boys of the post-war era dreamt of being.
sorry... .yes was another one of those cant sleep nights... cant seem to get the number in daylight.... the only bar at the mo is the wine bar here
We'll let you have it Yorkie. There have only ever been three VC and bars awarded - one of the recipients attended two of the schools listed. I had stumbled across this after reading an intriguing article about VC recipients and their education. Out of the 1358 VC's awarded, only 317 recipients went to school. No prizes for guessing which school tops the list of old-boy VC winners...
OK, yorkshire. I think it was three. Upham perhaps the most inspiring. https://nzhistory.govt.nz/files/documents/vc-citations/charles-upham-vc-2.pdf Once, the Eastern Assassin gave away 20 years and 80 pounds. To whom, and how were they sponsored?
It seems to me that you need to discover who he fought who was 20 years younger and 80 pounds heavier than he was!
