No shooting down (from me anyway). The young team and young manger combination is unfortunately one of reason why we aren't seeing the results imo. We need some experience both on and off the field to help us win games, we just don't have the game management knowledge that comes with experience. I hope we change that in Jan, but under LR I just don't see it happening with his preference in the transfer market.
Eimaj said it earlier in the thread, maybe an older head in the coaching staff/club as a bit of a mentor for LR and someone that will push back against him, challenge him, question him and not just nod their head would be a good thing?
Possibly, but it’d have to be a careful appointment/recruitment in my eyes.
The last thing the club needs is a figure who isn’t going to get 100% behind how LR wants the squad to develop.
I was saying an experienced CB might be beneficial to hold the team together during a bad run - but actually as we are performing well on the pitch that might not be as needed as I thought.
I’m prepared to wait and see what happens over the course of the season (and possibly the start of next) before I work out where this squad and manager are heading.
You're right, it would have to be an extremely careful appointment as if its the wrong one it would be a disaster all round. Hopefully ( am Im sure he has ) LR has people in the game he can turn to for advice, I just hope he listens when he's told what he needs to hear as opposed to what he wants to hear, as it can be very difficult for people.
As for waiting for the rest of the season and possibly the start of next, it's very easy to say that ( and anything we all say on here ) when it's not your/our money sunk into the club...will and can Acun (afford to) be that patient?
I don’t enjoy the style of play but could live with it if it was delivering regular wins, particularly at home to keep the floaters and new fans happy. However I do think he should get the rest of the season unless things go disastrously wrong and we end up mired in a relegation scrap
I see progress all round.
We have better players.
We have a better management team.
We play better football*
We have shown a more measured approach to recruitment.
*Although the standard of football will be considered better it doesn’t mean I don’t whince each time we play it around at the back, moreso when it’s across our 6 yard box.
I don’t find it a comfortable watch although I have convinced myself it’s a generation issue going against how we were taught to play the game.
The biggest problem I see at the minute is consistency in games. We had a neutral with us on Saturday & he was surprised at how we, as he put it, “play like Brazil one minute & San Marino the next”.
We have the style, we have the players, we need consistency. I’d like to think this will come. Experience may help but, at the minute, improving fitness wold be a start.
I don’t like the way we play and I think it’s very quickly become outdated since the whole world seemed to try copy teams like Man City and Brighton.
Positional play is so boring to watch and easier to defend against, especially when it’s done at the tempo we play.
I’m not sure how deep you guys are into football tactics and philosophy but dynamic/relational football is becoming the “in” thing right now and it’s so much more entertaining to watch. Teams like Fluminense are probably the most extreme version of it however Spurs also incorporate a lot of the same principles and look at them flying
Basically lots of movement, give and go’s, players not having to stick to their designated position. It’s the total opposite to positional play where everything is robotic and symmetrical.
I worry LR only has one way of setting up a team, it’s bad enough not getting results but it’s even worse when it’s not particularly entertaining either
I watched their game last night and I absolutely loved it. I personally love watching fast paced, fluid, attacking football even if it means we concede more. I go to football to be entertained and enjoy myself. The current style of play for me is not entertaining, I actually find it boring, slow and spend longer looking at the scores on my phone than I do the actual match at the minute.Spurs under Postecoglou have to be one of the most entertaining teams to watch right now. They play with inverted full-backs but not ones that slot in as defensive midfielders but get up the pitch and tuck inside the wingers. Udogie and Porro constantly get forward on the inside of Spurs' wingers. Maddison is constantly moving, dropping deep, carrying the ball forward etc. and Bissouma is like a better version of Seri except more athletic and better defensively.
Jesus. You selected the 1st 12 games of the season to make a point, I selected the last 6 games to make a different point. The only non-selective stats would be comparing all Shota's matches against all Rosenior's, but as that would show a definite improvement I can understand why you picked a different metric.Who's using selective stats? I certainly haven't. I've used first 12 games of last season Vs first 12 of this season. Nothing selective there what so ever. They are just facts and stats.
Feel free to point out anything on this thread that's "selective stats"
I'd give him two games..,.rosieball will not keep 20000+ coming for much longerI don’t enjoy the style of play but could live with it if it was delivering regular wins, particularly at home to keep the floaters and new fans happy. We all have our footballing ideals, Rosie clearly has his and some people are a fan of it. I personally don't think the majority of City fans want to watch this style. We are a working class city who pay money to be entertained and I feel we need a style to match that.
