Sacrificing football as a sign of respect. Its not even a sacriifiice as respect. The games will still be played.

I think the relevant outside of the top 7 divisions were given the choice. Collectively the Prem and EFL DECIDED on top 4 [ maybe 7 divisions ]
It is not the supporters who go lacking because of the lack of activity that complain about it that is the only consideration. Those supporters who who have booked etc in the spirit of the moment should be refunded for money paid ......

personal choice, would you be happy with a loss maybe by 4 goals should BCFC line up without 5 of the main players missing? or feel elated/smug/ whatever other description might fit, should we win by 4 or more because the opposition 5 of their main players missing? AND YOU ARE RIGHT the liklihood of disrepectful boo boys couldnt be ruled out[/QUOTE]

    that won’t necessarily work.
If you book a hotel at their best non refundable rate - ie pay now and no refunds under any circumstances, they are very unlikely to give you your money back and ditto with rail or air fares

people did and do have a choice no employer worth their salt would expect anyone who is a possible weak link [ due to belief/ state of mind/ result of bereavement ] to work? Family and neighbour wise 4 didnt .. I probably might have, but takes time for me to react ... mother and father quite a long time then out of the blue it hit me ... and I was bereft.

how is it? one sided approach, how many players would have declined to play or played under duress and maybe not performed your argument is based on your not being able to have football on a Saturday afternoon because the majority of the country is paying respect.

RA it is terminology of the word sacrifice that makes it wrong! THE WORD NEEDED IS POSTPONED cancelled is wrong also as you say the games will be played later ...

I cant really answer this comment as an absolute, based on the assumption the games will be played later the vendors would be maybe thinking along the lines of future bookings again? I dont know how your statutory rights would be in affect. It being circumstances beyond your control

You started a business as you didn't, as me, like being told what to do. Your view of Covid was along the same lines.
Yet you agree with a bunch of old farts in the FA.
    You surprise me.

You didnt say postponing you stated sacrifice entirely different, however we all have an opinion... you choose your own path through life with the choices you make and the statements in whatever context you deem applicable
Charles is my third Monarch and I have always admired the way the royal family do things and although some may say they didnt pay taxes or got away with freebies etc etc they moved with the modernisation of the human race and fell in line with new procedures of the countries [ UK ] growth.
I cannot say whether I would have worked Friday or not [ retired since 2006 in part ] [ [ 1 day of mourning/ respect is enough / a start? ] Postponement of the sports as a day of respect ... an opportunity for all not to lose out / or gain an opportunity to reflect .. again as ROD said in the crowds would have been and likely will be anti royalists who do not own respect

    The Sunday Times

'It isOK for Test cricket to go ahead, for fixtures in both codes of rugby to be fulfilled, for horse racing, athletics, golf and tennis to continue.
But Football ? No. Even grassroots involving children'.

    Absurd.

I surprise myself sometimes!! but I get your point.. I just think it was a once in a lifetime situation for many people to reflect plus the logistics, especially around London and major Cities might have caused havoc......I still think it was the right thing to do..

I'd say much fewer are involved for the likes of Rugby & Test Cricket etc compared to the hundreds of thousands for football...imo no comparison..

can read it 2 ways , it is 2[3] separate statements. You introduced the word sacrifice, our interpretation of the postponement. Then stated it was not a sacrifice of respect. Then qualified "not a sacrifice" by stating games will still be played!

You’re dancing on the head of a pin Humphrey, there was no need to not play Sat, Cricket carried on, as did Rugby and many other sports, nothing to do with respect, or lack of, just the FA over reacting, as normal.

More folk participated in the great North Run than watch Newcastle.
People went fishing and there are more who fish than play football.
My son-in-law was with 25,000 at the Oval this weekend.
He said it was an amazing privilege to stand together in absolute silence in respect and gratitude to the Queen.
I wanted to do the same with my grandson at Ashton Gate.

It's not about numbers it's about a knee jerk and ridiculous decision taken by a bunch of old farts.

stopped play on day out of respect ... you can chew on the rag as much as you like as I said a few times and you champion "people have a right to make up their own minds and have their OWN opinions. The great north run went ahead as the combatants were from all over the world and the majority of it was done for charity .. raised millions, something the royal family is always in tune with
