I completely understand stopping play on the day, also the day of the funeral, anything else is nonsense
no matter what is said what arguments are put forward you just dont get it ... not the time or place really to be having differences of opinion on how or when to respect someones funeral / death........ end of:
mmmm Maybe we should have football fixtures on Christmas day? Is one game of football that important.... The Queen was the only monarch that most of us can remember.. One of the few things left that preserves this Countries identity. A decision taken by the FA.......for a change a correct one... Comparing the odd Cricket game or a bit of fishing etc to the vast amount of football supporters is ridiculous
'ridiculous' - perhaps to you. The odd game of cricket ? It's a Test Match ! How many times, it's not about numbers.
Why not?, seems the perfect time to me. it’s not appropriate to argue the validity of the monarch at present I accept, but whether or not football should have been postponed Saturday, absolutely it’s the right time.
A test match is comparable to a game on a village green ! , are you winding me up ? , Do you really think an England test match is an insignificant event , it’s much more significant than whether Bristol City play Preston North End for a start,
I’m genuinely interested whether you think tomorrow & next Saturdays fixtures should go ahead or whether the fixture list should be postponed until after the funeral?, if they should go ahead , why?, and what the difference is between last Saturdays fixture and tomorrow’s or Saturdays?. For me it’s about balance, by all means stop fixtures the day after her death, as for instance Rugby did, and also stop any fixtures on the day of the funeral. Other than that life goes on. It’s sad of course it is, had we played Saturday it would have also given those that wanted to the chance to collectively remember, sing god save the king, and share a minute or twos silence together. Seems much more sensible to me. Football was the only major sport, as far as I know to take the approach it did, I’ve not heard anyone criticising other sports for being disrespectful I think you just wrong, sorry, you’re opinion I know, but wrong.
One test match verses the whole of the football league...are you winding me up? It's done, it's once in a life time.......get over it.....I agree with the decision you don't!!
I’m over it, it’s just frustrating the football authorities always get things wrong, it’s embarrassing.
But for me, they got it 100% right.. If I was part of the FA, I would not feel embarrassed about postponing football games for one weekend out of respect for the passing of such an important national figure... Some of us have standards!!!
I, like 1for, think they got it right! Unfortunately, football is not like rugby, cricket, running and many other “sports”, in that there is still a small but vocal minority who are prepared to go out of their way to make a “name” for themselves!! This could be on the basis of religion, republicanism, class (rich v poor), etc., but any such disorder would almost certainly have been highlighted by the media to the possible greater detriment of football in general. A few days on, and seeing the apparent weight of public opinion in support of the Queen/King, if not the Monarchy itself, any possible crowd disorder is likely to be significantly reduced in my view.
I don’t agree. Are you suggesting these people that you say would cause a problem would uniquely do it at a football match, but without the opportunity of a football match not vent their true feelings, surely such people will just find another way of making trouble?. I can’t think it’s right that football fans uniquely can’t be trusted to act with respect & it’s certainly not a reason to stop only football from being played. Are you suggesting no more football matches should be played until after the funeral? , otherwise what’s stopping these individuals making trouble next Saturday or the next time a game is played?
It’s not a case of having standards, or not. Are you suggesting football authorities uniquely have standards, but Rugby, Ciricket, and everybody else doesn’t , because football uniquely took the decision not to play Saturday, very odd.
football was taking place Friday Sat Sun and Monday. Of course they got it right, as an aside comment, how unfair on teams that would needed to have postponed because police were unable to supply enough officers to "make the game safe" especially London fixtures or control areas where there is concentrated mourning, parks, royal parks, palaces & households etc and routes! The main aspect is collectively as an organization that has the greatest number of players and supporters with the greatist number of fixtures it is common sense to act as one.
I was saying that I have standards and under the circumstances the FA made the right decision of which I agree.. on this occasion they shouldn’t feel embarrassed.. So many more people involved in football across the nation than the odd cricket game, the odd rugby game and a bit of fishing.
