Didn't he play for Palace?

Made more appearances for them than any other club. Played in the FA Cup final for them. A London boy, who has spent a large part of his playing and managerial career in and around London.

Plus Pardew must know that the Newcastle fans hate him.

What I don't understand is why Palace want him. He's hardly a relegation fire-fighter, and can Palace really afford to hand Newcastle a rumoured £5 million compensation for his services rather than use it to strengthen their squad instead?

I imagine Ashley already has a buyer for Newcastle lined up for when he jumps to Rangers, and that they have told him Pardew has to go. And maybe they're prepared to waive the compensation to get rid??

That's what I said earlier. If Pardew is going, I think it means that Ashley is also on his way. He seems keen on Rangers and the Newcastle fans hate him. One fan said it would be worth getting relegated if it meant Ashley and Pardew left....sorry, but that is plain stupid.

Wasn't there a suggestion that Pardew had a gambling debt owed to Ashley?

I've seen some Toon fans say Ashley covered Pardew's debts and he was working for living expenses and a low wage - surely not?

Journalists now saying Pardew in talks with NUFC over a termination of his contract, so he can leave for CPFC.

The gambling debt story seems to be common knowledge among Magpies fans, but of course that doesn't mean it's true. It would explain why Pardew was given such a long contract of course - 8 years is unusual amongst football managers to say the least. Presumably with Ashley planning to decamp himself, all bets are off so to speak.
