Hmmm.... judging by the responses it's little wonder that Islam will be the dominant religion in the UK pretty soon. Most of its followers are reasonably devout whereas Christians are diminishing.
The last census in 2011 was interesting. Christianity was reportedly the largest religion, 59.3 per cent of the population though 7% didn't answer the voluntary religious question and I'd like to think thats because they had no religion, but maybe not. The second largest religious group were Muslims - 4.8 per cent of the population. What should be a concern is that the birth rate of Muslims is almost double than of non-Muslims and now the percentage of Muslims among the under-fives is almost twice as high as in the general population. When you couple that with the fact that compared to the last census Christians had dropped from 71% you get the picture. That's a huge drop in just 10 years.
My biggest hope is the rise of secularism in the U.K. 14.1 million people, around a quarter of the population in England and Wales, reported they have no religion in 2011. As it looks ike it's inevitable that Christianity will continue to shrink at the expense of Islam the large increase in those not wanting to follow any religion has to be a good thing. Well I think so anyway. Those who say the UK is a Christian country are wrong, and that comment will be laughable in another 10 years. Just my opinion.
