Right, Selles says SR are going to announce some sort of contingency plan as soon as relegation is confirmed. But, before all that, and before any new manager comes in, or any new signings, let's just see, how much faith do you have in SR to turn things around?

EDIT: And yes, this is obviously presuming that we will be relegated in the next few games.

I voted "In the play-offs" because that has to be the minimum target. Not that us voting on a poll is going to have any effect on anything at all.

Working on one of my usual dumb [HASHTAG]#stats[/HASHTAG] projects, and I will say: from other threads I think people are overrating the likelihood of us coming straight back up (or even making the playoffs) in year one, at least relative to historical norms.

Obviously there are so many unknowns at this point, but based purely on hope and idealism, I could see us doing what Reading did to us that year and having a barnstorming second half of the season, march past everyone to 1st and take the title.

I don't think so. Firstly, the top of the Championship isn't as strong as it previously was (the points threshold to get into the play offs this season was as low as its ever been I think). Teams like Norwich and Watford have really regressed. Secondly even after the inevitable player sales we should still have a strong Championship squad and that's without any additions. If it's true that Charly wants to stay that's fantastic news as he'll rip up the Championship and physicality won't be an issue as he played in Argentina!

For me, all we really need to do is get the managerial appointment right and we should be competing at the top of the division.

I'm sure there will be another poll closer to the new season when we know who the manager is, and the playing squad. This is a poll to gauge everyone's faith (or lack of), in Sports Republic, seeing as their first year has been a total disaster (Will they hire the right manager this time? Will we be able to keep hold of some of our better players? Will we make good signings? etc)

Basically, there are lot of people making predictions already, so I thought we could put them all in a poll, and then re-visit in a year's time to have a jolly old giggle.

Haven't finished it yet, but over a couple decades of numbers I've gone through, the odds of getting promoted on the first try look to be in the ~25% range, and somewhere around 50% don't even make the playoffs.

True, but I bet the odds of us getting back to back promotions back in 2012 were much less than 25%. And that was a strong Championship with the likes of Leeds, Leicester, West Ham and Palace in it.

Sure, but that does presuppose there's something special about this team. I think we're better situated than many relegated teams in a number of respects, but we're also likely to go down with less than 30 points...

I don't think this season will have much bearing at all on next season TBH. Particularly if we get a competent manager in.

Yeah basically since Covid, the Championship clubs seem to have become even worse off, and are therefore finding it harder to compete with the relegated sides. Most of them now rely on having at least 2 or 3 loan players from the top acadamies (City/Chelsea/Utd), who are of such a good quality these days, that they are often the star player in whichever team they join team (see; Tella, McAtee, Diallo).

Watford will continue to shoot themselves in the foot. Norwich basically did what we did last summer, in selling too many experienced leader types, and recruiting a load of youngsters.

Think our biggest rivals will basically be whoever comes down with us.

We were second in '78 too. So we've never won the Div 2/Champ title.

Checked to see who has the most titles. It's only bloody Man City, haha, with seven.*

I think we'll be in the playoffs, just because I've followed Saints for long enough to know that there's (usually) a good team in there somewhere, but our ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory is legendary.
One point, that I've also raised on the 'Selles Out' thread is that everyone assumes/expects that SR will part company with Selles, earlier rather than later. Whilst it is my fervent hope, are we sure that this is SR's intention? Could there be a scenario where SR decide that Selles has done the best job he could, and our imminent relegation is despite Selles, not because of him? In other words, could we be blessed/saddled (delete as appropriate) with Ruben Selles as manager for next season?
