The hearing is fascinating. Obviously the Democrats are really laying in to the panel, but very interesting that about half the Republicans are also saying: we are worried about this, but will ask you these questions in private.

Quite enjoyed the senator questioning where Canada was in the threat assessment with regard to Fentanyl. Tulsi Gabbard really squirmed trying to answer that without saying "yeah, Trump's talking out of his arse there, soz".

She also really squirmed when asked why, for the first time in 13 years, the impact of climate change was left out.

I have mixed feelings about this enquiry. My take is that it is too partisan to be credible....

1. The information leak published probably was classified but i cannot see how it could have compromised the American services.

2. It appears likely that The Atlantic has refrained from publishing more sensitive stuff.

3. It seems irresponsible to not use official channels. Really poor lack of judgement .

4. Human error letting journalist into the group. I do not have an issue with doing that. The individual who sent the invite should not be singled out as i think the whole group have demonstrated their unsuitability for office. They all need to be binned

5. Not sure this enquiry should be questioning current US foriegn policy. The Americans voted for America First and they have to lay in the bed they made. However, i think it shows up Trump to the voters.

6. If anything the anti Europe statements will win favour with Trump supporters. I agree about Vance's comments about the Suez which caused a major rift between Uk and France v US in 1956. It is not an unfaie statement until you realise that Israel is a big beneficiary. However, he totally wrong about everything else. I was shocked by the comments.

7. The leak deminstrates why Europe needs to break links with the current US administration.

One of the key elements here is that they were using a messaging app that they had been briefed was not secure, on their personal phones which they have been repeatedly told are likely to have been hacked by China and Russia.

This popped up on my Facebook feed. No idea how much truth is there, but scary if true.

If you're a little confused about what Musk is trying to achieve with DOGE, here's the breakdown:

Elon Musk and Peter Thiel cofounded a company that became PayPal.

Other executives at PayPal went on to found or lead other huge tech companies including YouTube, LinkedIn, Reddit, Affirm, and many VC firms.

This group became known as the PayPal mafia because they exerted an outsized influence on Silicon Valley.

Peter Thiel mentored a young JD Vance and helped him get set up in his first VC firm.

Peter Thiel and the PayPal mafia funded JD Vance's successful Senate run. Amazing because he had absolutely zero political experience.

Thiel and Musk all but forced Trump to choose JD Vance as VP in exchange for funding his presidential campaign.

The three of them, plus a lot of other tech billionaires subscribe to an ideology called the Dark Enlightenment espoused by this super weird, creepy dude: Curtis Yarvin aka Mencius Moldbug.

Yarvin preaches that the media and academia represent "The Cathedral" that secretly controls power and must be dismantled.

He advocates for a corporate run, monarchy, led by a CEO-Dictator.

Says that Democracy is an "outdated software" and openly opposes it and that:
- Government agencies should be dismantled and The U.S. should be broken up into "patchworks" controlled by tech oligarchs.
- That the elite tech billionaires should rule because they have the intelligence to "fix" society
- That the "masses are asses" too dumb to govern themselves.

The strategy is to gut the government via R.A.G.E - Retire All Govt Employees to make government incapable of operating.

Then to replace government with private corporations.

To eliminate elections because they are "obsolete"

To use distraction and chaos to prevent public resistance.

Trump is their useful tool to be disposed of as soon as they can wrest control.

This is why Elon wears a black MAGA hat. They are not Trump supporters, they are "Dark MAGA"

This isn't a hypothetical. The plan is already in motion:
- Musk, Thiel, and their network are actively dismantling democratic institutions.
- JD Vance, the “MAGA heir,” is being positioned to help implement this transition.
- The public is too distracted to realize what’s happening.
- If successful, democracy in America will be permanently replaced by a corporate-run authoritarian state.
-----------------------------------
That's it. Now that you understand that you can see how everything that's happening fits within that lens.

Now the only question is what do we do about it?

I hope it’s too far fetched but it does sound plausible

I’ve not seen it but if it gives details as alleged about the date and time of the attack, the locations, type of aircraft’s, qty’s and type of weapons. that potentially endangers the personnel involved. You can argue that they probably don’t have capable weapons but remember a US F117 Nighthawk stealth bomber was shot down in an attack on Serbia by an old SAM missile system which shouldn’t have been a threat. Except the Americans kept using the same flight path into Serbia. The Serbians knew this and just needed to wait. If you give your enemies the plan of course it’s more dangerous than keeping stum

The published info is on the BBC. This stuff is generic and would be of very limited value. The stuff not published might be more serious but , from what we know, more damage was done to the credibility of this group than to US intelligence. They just come across as idiots.

The Trump press conference was fascinating but am inclined to agree it is trivial.....especially in comparison the boxes of classified info in The Orange One's garage.

The biggest outcome of this will be to galvanise the Democrats.

I can’t agree. This is America’s top INTELLIGENCE people not doing the basics of intelligence properly.

I agree they did not do the basics but there was no detrimental outcome. They just made themselves look like idiots. Trump's garage was far more risky.

The whole lot are incompetent but i reckon there will be far worse to come. They are like the Keystone Cops.

If it had been Hillary Clinton the Trumpers would be calling for her head, literally.
St Jabbo

Without beIng alarmist , I can see Clinton being pursued by Trump through the courts. I bet they attempt to get atleast one Democrat tried for treason.

So you think its OK for Hesgeth and Vance to have a go again at their closest allies.
More shipping to Europe might go through the Suez canal than ships going to USA, but the Houthi's are mainly targeting ships that are Israelis registered or are carrying trade to Israel or from Israel. Vance and Hesgeth are talking bollocks
