Yeah that is fair. It's undeniable that traffic here is lower than it once was though (of which this thread is just one factor of course).
Saints being absolute dogshit might have something to do with that.

But there are significant political events happening all the time Tom, and a lot of them deserve discussion. I would like to talk about, to name a few examples, the decision to demolish Grenfell Tower, the situation in Gaza, the Ukraine war, Labour’s effort to turn the economy around, and climate change, probably more important than anything else.I'm starting to think we should bin this thread and have a thread whenever there's a significant political event such as a general election or a US Presidential election because most of the stuff on here in between such events is just bullshit.
I do agree there are plenty of events worth discussing. But I feel this thread has been somewhat tainted by people who refuse to even entertain other people's opinions - and Os is not the only guilty party there, albeit he is the most controversial. I just wish people could debate things without having their left wing or right wing blinkers on. Climate change isn't going away regardless! But there are significant political events happening all the time Tom, and a lot of them deserve discussion. But any attempt to engage in debate on anything is always derailed by Osvaldorama’s continuous spouting of utter bullshit and lies he has copied off Twitter, and his complete contempt for anyone with a different view.
As people pointed out yesterday, this thread had become a sensible place again for the 4 weeks he was banned. People could hold opposing views and debate the merits without resorting to blanket insults.
This thread was created mainly as an outlet for people who wanted to talk about the issues in the lead up to the Brexit referendum, but more importantly, it gave the mods a lever to enforce the “no politics” rule on all the other threads. I think, despite the problems with certain posters, it’s still worth keeping a single thread where politics can be debated. Anyone who doesn’t want to read or post on this thread can simply stay away.I do agree there are plenty of events worth discussing. Agreed with all the above. This thread was civil and even quite informative for a month, now it is just tedious oneupmanship and "see I was right" and "I know, you all don't and are being duped"
We all have varying political views on here - after all we are here for the 'love' of Southampton FC, not for our world outlook, but there are ways to debate and put your point across, without the Trumpesque 'he who shouts loudest'.
I have a few friends on here (lol honest) and I guarantee some of our views are poles apart, but we discuss them like adults and even learn from each other. There really isn't a right or wrong in a lot of things, just a different perspective.
The thread now is quite pointless as it is just now an avenue for one poster in particular to shout and rant (lol not you Lincoln...that is the SR thread) and try to put their views on us. The funny thing is that if the delivery was different and from better sources, some of us may actually listen and maybe even agree a bit. Instead it is just sensationalism and frankly downright racist **** that goes under the banner of "You are all being duped, I know the truth"
Looking at the way Trump is locking horns with the CIA and the FBI, I am reminded of the time when John F Kennedy said he would “smash the CIA into a thousand pieces”. What could possibly go wrong after making such a threat?I am convinced that Trump will not last the course. There will be a moment when the world will wake up to Trump and say enough is enough. Quite interesting to read about elements of judiciary already moving against him.
I can see the international community reaching a point at which America will be ostracised completely. It is not going to end well for Trump and as soon as his supporters start to be affected by his policies, the writing will be on the wall.
I wax reading an interesting article yesterday about the fact that Reform is not the political party benefitting most from thr current political turbulence. The SNP now have more support than u der Nicola Sturgeon due to the poor performance of Starmer and his cosying up to Trump. When Trump eventually fails, I feel that this will pave the way for more progressive political parties like SNP. Hopefully Labour will then be more comfortable pursuing a pukka socialist agenda.
The failure of Trump will happen sooner rather than later.. Hopefully this will finally discredit the Right in the eyes of the voters. Just need the Left to stop embracing niche causes and start returning to their fundamental policies of addressing inequality.

Male pettiness among football fans? Surely not!Never really bother reading on here and just scrolled the last few pages. Hilarious and quite sad to see grown men be quite so petty. Politics is best done down the pub over a pint
Grenfell. I don’t really understand this idea of keeping the thing up. People need homes to live in, not monuments. Someone explain this one to me.But there are significant political events happening all the time Tom, and a lot of them deserve discussion. It was a really good thread for a long timeIf I had known I would become a mod back when this thread was created I would have pushed really hard for this not to have been created.![]()
On the topic of people’s rights, I understand that America has stated its intention not to attend the 2025 G20 summit in Johannesburg because it believes that the rights of a body of people are being violated and undermined.Grenfell. Gaza is craziness. Why is it that people can see that some people have rights but not recognise the rights of others? Imagine a race that was kicked out of one country being then kicked out of another. Is it irony that the state if Israel, built by a people who were kicked out of many nations, keeps kicking the Palestinian people out of one home after another?
Ukraine. I hope this war ends soon. Too much killing and no progress anywhere. I have a tiny bit of hope Trump was being honest when he said he could end it - but it has to be a peace satisfactory to the people of Ukraine.
Labour are up against it on the economy. I am happy for them to be unpopular if they make long term progress.
Climate change. The key is to go 100% green energy. It will be cheaper for all of us and is achievable in the short term!
