Interesting graphic here from an article in the Financial Times that suggests almost ten thousand millionaires will leave the UK this year. That's a lot of tax money being lost.

In what sense would it be more concerning if he was here legally? We do have avenues to legal immigration
Really depends how much of their taxable revenue the UK government was able to get.
Studies seem to show the wealthiest pay less tax than the high earners as they have more ways to dodge taxation.
They said this in 1997. About companies as well. It didn’t happen to the extent warned. Given the paper reporting it I wouldn’t be surprised if this was an attempt to try and scare off tax changes from a future budget.
I don't see that, because you can't legislate to stop someone going a bit mental and stabbing someone. Plenty of British natives with psychological problems.
I know there's nothing specific pointing to a mental health problem, but trying to kill an 11 year old is a pretty good indicator that this wasn't a normal situation.
Our homeless situation is an issue too and I'm sure that with more investment we might not be seeing quite as many mental health issues that could be connected to homelessness.
Depends how much they are actually paying and where they are actually going.
52,000 mental health care beds in the NHS 2000, 24,000 in 2121. Speaks volumes.. Oh and the prisons are overcrowded with many prisoners suffering from mental health issues.

Well I said possibly precisely because we don't know very much about him at all. All I can see is that he's homeless and the brief report of today's court hearing that says he spoke through an interpreter to confirm his name and date of birth. Neither of those things suggest he was someone with exceptional talents likely to benefit the UK. If he does have mental health issues what is the nature of those issues and how long-standing are they? He might even have a previous criminal conviction. We don't know
If he's a low-skilled legal migrant with a long-standing serious mental health condition that makes him more likely to attack people on the street then I'd say it's concerning he was allowed to move to the UK at all. But we don't know whether that's the case.
The "plenty of British people with psychological problems" point is just completely irrelevant. Of course there are. That's not a reason to import more problems.

Not the Pravda / CN part though. We are heading that way with every hint from "TPTB" about censoring things that they decide they don't want on t'internet. The Biden laptop one was a prime example! There is always "creep" in these sort of policies. Where it starts is never where it ends up.
?? This is the same as twitter. The majority of it isn't anything other than engagement farming. Its the main reason I use it, not for reading snippets of rumours from propagandists but to spread [HASHTAG]#tags[/HASHTAG] and suchlike. Its a free advertising tool. "twitter raiding" is massive!
I think the vast majority of vocal opponents are not "panicking" about a crackdown on hate speech at all. they are worried about where it will end up down the line. I don't particularly have any problem with nasty stuff being taken down immediately but I do worry about the misinformation part because as seen with the Hunter Biden laptop episode, TPTB can say anything is misinformation and have it taken down even if it is true.
Agree pretty much on the last paragraph. I don't understand the whole gun thing in the US, nor how they apply it to UK stuff when in reality violent crimes here with no guns are a fraction of the US with guns. I seem to remember when Trump was in the gun lobby bringing up the John Bird case to try and make a point when it was an isolated case, not a daily occurrence. There is no real comparison to be made and I fully support gun restrictions.
Its funny how sure people are that it wasn't a DDOS attack because it suits their argument. You do know a single page can be DDOS attacked? I was once in an admin team running a bulletin board just like this one on one of my hobbies and suddenly one page would not work purely because someone had started his post "Hello from Macedonia" and apparently this was the spark that sent Greek members into a meltdown which then spread through their avenues of communication and we were DDOSd.
We were then told by Greek members that Macedonia was Greek and these posters had no right to use the word, instead to use FYROM (Former republic of Yugoslavia.) Even now in the Olympics a decade or more since then the agreed on name is North Macedonia. We had no real way of insisting on this and they DDos's the whole platform and we could never recover from it!
Yes twitter is big but then so are many companies that suffer from these kind of attacks. Not saying Musk is telling the truth but the way it is dismissed like this seems a little premature.

It isn't about people losing the right to be nasty now. It is about how far this creeps (and it will if implemented) I couldn't care less about nasty tossers being done for what they say and do. We will see in 10 year's time how far that censorship has gone though, although I suspect by then we will all be re-educated by some clever AI technology. lolz.

I remember it launching and was gonna use it alongside twitter but in the end didn't bother. No point using it for Crypto when half the world isn't wasn't able to use it. And it would be hard for them to come back from that when the hype has died.We will see on the CN thing and I am not at all worried about the UK itself coming under Sharia Law however some communities especially women in South Asian communities are prevented / encouraged to ignore the official avenues of law in this country as admitted by members of those communities on such things like honour and marriage disputes. I remember watching a documentary earlier this year or last on Beeb2 about a campaigner that was fighting to help women who were being forced through community "councils" on this issue. This wasn't some right wing crank saying it. It was someone from that background, who had been victim to it themselves and said it was pretty widespread. Campaigners themselves have to hide their identities, change their names because of the abuse and threats they get.
Maybe. All I know if when I open threads I’m immediately presented with irrelevant garbage and have no clue how that algorithm works. I guess I just haven’t fed it enough. Twitter is a lot better but I don’t know what it would be like with a “brand new account”
there doesn’t seem to be any real attempt at serious journalism on threads and some still try on twitter. But again that might be the algorithm. But I’ve heard a lot from people talking who tried to abandon Twitter and they all feel compelled to stay (both sides)

I think there have been people claiming to be inside X who disagreed with Musk’s stance. And it’s very easy to believe that Musk might not know what he’s talking about. And even if there was an attack that is still a black mark against him - if you don’t anticipate that and have people trying to stop it given how controversial it was then it’s on you. It’s believable to most that there isn’t the team there to help stop that because he “streamlined” the company so much. And if he does have the people - shouldn’t that have been priority number one? Maybe determined people would crack through regardless?
It still look amateurish and is the second time. You’d think Trump would know or have been told about DeSantis and rejected the offer. He could have had a cosy live chat with Elon somewhere else surely ? Unless he is the one actually in thrall to Elon rather than the other way around

Some things deserve punishment. We don't live in a consequence free world.
