Exactly. I am by no means defending Farage as a person or his views.

It’s funny how the narrative switched effortlessly from ‘Farage wasn’t cancelled because of his views’ to ‘Coutts has every right to cancel him because of his views’. The liberal left are just useful idiots. They will just parrot the media with no principles behind what they say.

That isn’t the point I made and you repeatedly ignored it. It appears he didn’t have enough money for the account and they reviewed if they wanted to keep him. Not quite the same as he had all the money but they rejected him.

Yeah. I could be wrong, but my reading of the memo is that -- like any good bloodless capitalists -- they'd have been happy to look past his politics so long as they made money off of him. It's not like Farage just started being awful yesterday.

And Coutts has been very open about its actions in the past...the Telegraph, when it liked Coutts:

Is a private bank that caters exclusively to upper-class twits and fires clients inherently problematic? Absolutely, but it's been inherently problematic from the day it was chartered. When your whole deal is allowing your clients to feel super special even though their only quality of note is that their great-great-grandfather was the bastard child of an unimportant royal with a two-paragraph Wikipedia page, you're not really in the banking business, you're just an ego-inflation service for people whose insecurity is exceeded only by their net worth.

Nothing about this affair really made them more problematic: they could and did tolerate Farage being vulgar, but they could not tolerate Farage being poor and vulgar.

I have to say that these media outlets really worry me as well as the fact that there is clearly an audience with whom this nonsense gets traction. The issue with Farage's bank account should be worrying but his version of events is disingenuous. I would agree that, if banks were preventing people from opening accounts, there is something deeply concerning about this . Farage had stated that 9 other banks had subsequently denied him opening accounts too yet this appears to be incorrect. It does open an issue regarding morality as I am sure that many of the bans have not denied access to their services to all sorts of unsavory characters. Did those banks who accepted Russian oligarchs as customers have any qualms about this ? What about those companies causing harm to the environment?

There was an article I read last week about banks now starting to deny access to businesses involved in the arms trade. No one has picked up on this in this thread. I have to say that banks facilitating those enterprises responsible for taking a stance against the arms industry or indeed responsbile for climate change should be applauded. They would then have a far greater influence against global warming than a group like Just Stop Oil. There would be no need to eco-activists. In some ways I can concur with banks taking a moral perspective against "undesirables" having access to accounts although , in the case of individuals like Farago, he is just as idiot as opposed to being a criminal or former rogue head of state that I am sure have accounts with British banks and have not been subject to scrutiny in the last fortnight.

I would go further in my criticism of Farage but suffice to say that the impact of Brexit has demonstrated just how dangerous the influence of misinformed individuals can become when the media becomes beholden to them. There are very serious questions to be asked when it comes to understanding the pernicious actions of the Right in Western society and how the "anti-woke" agenda of lies is peddled by them. In this respect, I can see why Coutts would have considered Farage to be "undesirable" and think it is a shame that there are not other enterprises that have taken a similar stand. I would like to know if someone like James Rees-Mogg has experienced similar issues with his bank because clearly he is one of those individuals who are of a very similar dispicable mindset to Farago. It would be good to see other enterprises picking up on the fact that people peddling ridiculous ideas like ant-vacc, climate change deneyers, brexiters, white suppremacy, etc, etc are bad for business and perhaps doing something that makes sure that those with more odious opinions are denied access to the benefits that are enjoyed by more mature and responsible members of society.

Interesting to see the Conservative Party complaining loudly today, about the coverage given to their London Mayoral candidate by Tory leaning London Evening Standard. The Standard’s owner, Evgeny Lebedev, was made a Lord by his pal Boris Johnson. The paper was until recently edited by George Osborne. And now Conservative central office is accusing it of deliberate mockery of their batshit crazy, Trump and Truss endorsing candidate. No mention of the Standard’s years of vindictive, belittling and dishonest coverage of Jeremy Corbyn btw.

The thing is you would be able to notice that the environment has changed just by staring out of the window if you know what to look for. It is surprisingly easy - you just have to consider things as obvious as butterflies and notice the decrease in numbers flying as well as the reduced range of species. Butterflies that prefer milder temperatures are decreasing in the north whilst other species that like the warmth are now moving in that direction instead. If you live near a river, you will encounter birds like Little Egrets and Cetti's Warblers which were usually associated with more southern areas of Europe. Even the time at which the trees come in to leaf and then start to turn has started much earlier. It is a ridiculous statement to make because the evidence as there for everyone to see just as long as you appreciate nature. Arguements such as these promoted by Le Tissier are absolutely ridiculous and need to be called out for the nonense it is.

I see Jeremy is being mooted as a possible independent candidate for Mayor of London.

She also tweeted her support of Dan Wootton before swiftly deleting that too. Sadiq Khan is many things, but even his worst characteristics are better than the best of her.

As I said there are many avenues to purchase crypto, I know because I own a rather substantial amount and have shown many how to do so as well.
 
I am a lifelong vegetarian so this story is very interesting to me. I have never told anyone to stop eating meat but I have always suggested that having vegetarian days and cutting down on meat is good for your health and for the planet. An Oxford study has shown that eating a lot (equivalent of a burger a day) of meat is really bad for the environment.
