Can’t claim to know what’s in his contract with the BBC, but the impression I get is that he wasn’t under any obligation to neutrality outside of the studios, what has happened here is the BBC want to amend this and until he agrees to it he is off air.
Could well be wrong though.
That’s my understanding as well .
The news dept have clear rules on what they can or cannot say on other media sources , the sports section do not ( though I am sure some will now be out in place ).
As things stand IMHO Lineker has broken NO BBC guidelines .
