That’s my understanding as well .
The news dept have clear rules on what they can or cannot say on other media sources , the sports section do not ( though I am sure some will now be out in place ).

As things stand IMHO Lineker has broken NO BBC guidelines .

I hate that the UK, which takes so few refugees compared to most other countries, is filled with people who support Lineker being removed from Match of the Day. Sorry but defending the weak should never be a crime. This is only an anti-Tory comment in that the Tories are racist scum who need to get annihilated at the next election. Sorry but anybody who still supports the tories after everything they have done to deepen the divides in our country is just a moron.

Does anyone have any recommendations for where I can get an alternative to the BBC sports notifications?

Interesting that Radio 4 news is leading with this story and quoting former chairman Greg Dyke, who says that Lineker has every right to express his opinion in the same way that Alan Sugar did.

Maybe a climb down is imminent?

There’s certainly an interest/irony/credit to the fact that their own sources are actually covering it very impartially!

I find it fascinating that this has been the lead story in the news over the past few days.

Not UNHCR saying that the UK government's policy was immoral and probably illegal. Or the EU saying it might affect relations in future.

Nope, the spinners have done an excellent job.

I know this may sound counterintuitive but the truth is that this story is more likely to be noticed by ordinary people than those ones - and therefore more likely to have an impact. People will more likely listen to the furore around this rather than simply ignoring heavier news. Sadly, we live in a world where people are more likely to listen to a former footballer than a scientist or a UN envoy.

The way the football community is backing Gary Lineker’s right to speak out is a credit to the sport imo. And this government’s disgraceful right wing populist nonsense deserves to be called out; every media source in the country should be holding them to account for it.

Premier League have announced they will respect the PFA’s stance and that they will not be arranging any interviews for BBC TV today.

I'm looking forward to the flood (and it really will be a deluge) of right-wing loons telling us how much better MOTD is tonight than it has ever been. Quite possibly some on here.
