The backstory almost certainly is that he was presented with a choice: record that hostage video, or be removed via the 25th Amendment.
Also, a police officer has now died of their injuries after being clubbed on the head with a fire extinguisher during the attack on the Capitol.

Police are now walking it back. Apparently they are on life support, pending the notification and arrival of family. So not dead, but not going to survive sadly.
Wow, they are trying to blame Antifa for the riot! Lots of Trump supporters refusing to accept it was there lot that did it and one of the Republican politicians actually spreading fake news that Antifa caught on identity recognition cameras.
What has happened to integrity?
Integrity stopped being important when politicians realised that they could lie through their teeth, be exposed as liars, yet still get elected at the next election.
It’s not just the politicians that lack integrity, but those who put them in power, despite knowing what they are voting for.
I think the press has a lot to answer for. Too interested in pandering to the masses and exploiting right wing narratives to sell papers and adverts.
However, social media - which was hailed as a revolution in providing truth - has actually just become a huge lie machine.
I hate this catch-all of "the media" like it's all one amorphous blob.
