The LibDems were dead in the water before they recast themselves as a single issue party. So we’ll see how well their manifesto stands up to scrutiny.

The next election will be interesting for a number of reasons; both the Tories and LibDems will want to make it all about Brexit. Labour will try to shift the debate onto other areas like austerity, the NHS, the housing crisis, investment in schools, taking utilities like the railways into public ownership.
And, I hope regenerating UK industries, the lifeblood of any economy. Like you, the Brexit issue needs to be resolved first, let a few months pass, then see if Johnson is so keen in the late spring or early summer. By then Lib Dems will have to redefine themselves, while Farage's party will be deceased. And Leave voters might not be too impressed in the wake of Brexit. I believe it will take a Labour Government to heal the divisions in the country as in 1964, 1974 and 1997.

The split of the Remainer vote is crucial. In virtually all opinion polls the LD+Lab vote comes out in the 45-50% range. What is required is a big gesture from the Lib Dems. Something along the lines of agreeing to only fight their hundred best prospect seats aggressively and allow the rest of their support to go wherever it best telos beat Pfeffel.

It would then be up to Corbyn to respond. But as long as people persist in the erroneous belief that it is possible for their party to win outright that vote will get split and be less effective.

Extension, negotiation, referendum with result implemented then election. Spaffer Johnson and his crooked cronies must be forced by parliament to negotiate final terms then we have the referendum. Brexit is a single, cross party issue to be dealt with by referendum. General elections are fought on party lines with manifestos detailing policies for the next five years government.

I can understand why the remainers are desperate to hang on but hey surely even they would agree the Brexit issue has been going on for too long? It would seem none of the parties are particularly keen on a referendum. I understand about the scrutiny but how long is really needed?? Its party political meandering in my opinion and I really do not think it is doing any party any favours particularly labour.

Edit .....and what's more I think it is playing more into the tories hands

Just in case anyone still thinks Brexit was ever about anything other than the new tax laws, this should convince you:

Thanks Chilcs. It looks likely we'll extend with the WAB being properly scrutinised and amended. Let's hope the TAD in in place and in use and Boris's backers are over the barrel.

Any extension will rip the Tories apart, Johnson is calling the election because he knows he’s toast if we’re still in the EU on Jan 1st.

Watch the video. That’s why Brexit is a thing, and why it has to be stopped.

The trouble is I cant see that any change in government will alter this...............Even he is saying to deal.......albeit not with Johnson at the helm. So Why aren't they getting a no confidence vote in Johnson??

First Brexit has to be stopped, or at least put back to the people. Then we can have an election which focuses on stopping Tory austerity and dragging Britain into the 21st Century by moving to the Green New Deal to fight climate change.
Watch the video.

Option 0 disagree strongly!

The WAB must be properly scrutinised and amended, similar complex bills take about four weeks in committee stage. Please look at Keir Stammer's excellent speech highlighting the deficiencies, clause 30 in particular, possibility of a no deal exit December 2020. I think it was Chilcs who posted it on here.

If, big if, that's passed it's the start of massive negotiations in the transition period when complete they have to be passed by parliament. That's when the referendum should be held on the final exit terms. Many observers UK and EU think the TP will need to be extended given the complexity of the negotiations. I can't be arsed to find links to the quotes and who made them.

Beddy it's been widely said across all media, Extension, negotiation, referendum with result implemented then election. The Johnson will snap at any opportunity to get a backdoor no deal before 01/01/2020. He and his bunch of crooked cronies just can't be trusted.

Unfortunately it's this.
It would actually cost lib dems a lot of votes, so I don't expect them to do it. But it is the only slim hope we have left for a remain outcome.

The opposition have to show remain can work together and compromise better than Brexit party and conservatives. Then the ****ty first past the post system might rescue us. It's the only way.

Beddy, you’re a businessman. If I was doing a deal with you and I placed a 100 page contract in front of you, would you sign it without bothering to read it?

So it's 1940 and the Nazis are sitting in Calais eyeing the big prize, do we say " this has been going on too long now, let's have a deal with Herr Hitler - he may not be too bad?

No Im not saying it shouldn't be scrutinised.............But 95% has been scrutinised prior to the latest......negotiation.........so the majority is well known. It is the 5% they want to take months over and that to me doesn't make sense.

Edit........... for the record chilcs..........I'm not convinced about all this tax dodging business I just cannot believe any government in this country would deliberately lower standards in this country just so a few can make a few bucks.

Strewth....are you really comparing Brexit campaigners to Hitler????? Bloody heck mate I suggest you look at Hitler's History and there really isn't the closest reality to him!!! I know the guy isn't trusted but comparing him to Hitler is just too much for me!! Trust me I have no liking for either..........

I think less than 95% and not scrutinised to the extent that happens during the committee stage. There are small changes of wording that make a big change in meaning. There are two documents to be checked WAB and I think it's called a political statement re the direction of future negotiations. Again Bedds its the inherent dishonesty of Johnson and co that makes this necessary.

I believe Johnson was aiming for a no deal to negate the tax avoidance directive.
