I don't think that an issue like the Brexit process should be the reason for a GE - if the people are going to be asked about what is effectively a single issue, it should be by referendum. THEN we can have a GE that is actually choosing a government and set of policies. BJ knows he's got no chance of getting his deal through without a massive risk of (unacceptable to him) amendments that could fundamentally change the agreement soi trying to force an early GE is his only chance of possibly increasing his numbers in the commons to enable his plan to get passed. I'm almost hoping that Macron holds out against a 3 month extension and forces the Brexit deal to be negotiated as there wouldn't be time to have a GE.
Just watched him on the news saying (more or less) the opposition need to be reasonable and if they want more time to scrutinise the deal then they MUST agree to the election. So they have to be reasonable to have the opportunity to do their job properly, whilst he doesn’t have to be reasonable and can just issue threats like the above. When will an interviewer have the courage to tell him to grow up and stop acting like the spoilt child that he is?
Wow, read this from Junker https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...-eu-juncker-referendum-campaign-a9169936.html
Strewth.......that is serious...........if they can prove this surely lying is against the law in those circumstances.
If Boris wants an election in December give him one.....but insist he stands down before the election.
You haven't been paying attention Neddy. It's Extension, negotiation, referendum with result implemented then election. Johnson and his crooked cronies must be forced by parliament to negotiate final terms then we have the referendum. Brexit is a single, cross party issue to be dealt with by referendum. General elections are fought on party lines with manifestos detailing policies for the next five years government. This is just another diversion tactic. He's just pissing in the wind.
I don't think parliament has anywhere near the numbers needed in favor of a referendum. I would obviously prefer a referendum too, but i just dont think its realistic
I am taking double scotches. At least when I am pissed I am not angry. When I am sober I want to do horrible things to lying. cheating and corrupt Tory Cabinet members.
In ordinary life we talk to each other as things are. We do not normally lie to each other but are honest and straight with each other. Even when in disagreement we have enough respect for each other to not deceive our family and friends. We do not as a matter of course lie to and threaten our family and friends. This is the tragedy of politics. Politicians do lie, deceive and threaten and Johnson is the biggest culprit of the lot. Ordinary people will believe Johnson is talking to them openly and honestly like their mates and when they read in the papers that they agree with him then people swallow the story hook line and sinker. Johnson's latest twists and spins are once more threats and lies and people will believe "Let's get Brexit done" and the call for an election. The deal that will have a profound effect on the fortunes of the country and each of us should be carefully scrutinised, that is what Parliament is for, it should not be seen as an inducement or bribe.
Surely abstentions cant be counted for or against? Surely this would leave the door open for the election.? ...........and they are saying BJ is using dirty tricks and they aren't...............??????????????????????????
Boris needs a 2/3 majority of total seats I believe - if more than about 200 abstained, the numbers just wouldn't be there to approve a GE, regardless if every other MP who did vote, voted for the GE. Hardly dirty tricks Beddy, just a way of ensuring that the GE stands no chance of happening under Boris's timetable. If Brexit is debated, amended and passed, the opposition parties will be all over a GE but they won't be forced into an early GE that could potentially allow Boris to just steamroller the unamended Brexit deal through.
Just for everyone’s interest ..... this is why Lib Dem MPs abstained on the NHS vote - not to support the Tories or privatise the NHS ... https://fullfact.org/health/liberal-democrat-nhs-privatisation/
