This is horrific. If Brexit is delayed, god knows what horrors will unfold. There appears to be a nasty undercurrent of considerable thugs out there who are ready to take the law into their own hands if things do not pan out the way they want.

To resolve this, Johnson needs to get off his high horse and sign the deal negotiated by Mrs May, flaws and all.

The deal that's been voted down by Parliament 3 times already? Boris can sign what he likes, but it's not up to him.
Have we really come to a point where the least worst option is the only way to go, when, in theory there is still the option of rescinding Art 50?

There is a sinister, sinister undercurrent to this government, who are using nazi propaganda tactics at this point.

The media in this country just lap it up. You just know the daily mail et all. Will be running the traitor and surrender headlines non-stop.

At what point does this escalate to violence? It feels like the Brexit mob is getting angrier and angrier.

And let the terrorists have their way? Sets a dangerous precedent.

If I recall the mob press were calling for May´s head after the deal she had negotiated. She received an abhorrent amout of abuse, most from the guys that you have termed as "terrorists." So signing such a deal would not be appeasing these guys in any shape or manner. Anyhow it isn´t going to happen as Johnson has escalated the stakes, whereby he manages to forcé the EU to give way on the backstop or he achieves nothing and the UK crashes out with the run on sterling and the rest that follows. Of course he will blame the EU for the fallout, as will the right-wing press.

You think Johnson will do that? Perhaps he will and will never set foot on British soil again. There´s not a chance of May´s deal passing unless it is somehow cleverly reworded, protects the GFA and is somehow passed by Parliament because Corbyn and his cohorts abstain.

"To resolve this, Johnson needs to get off his high horse and sign the deal negotiated by Mrs May, flaws and all."

You were the one who mentioned it as the solution Ides.
I think there is more chance of a VONC, general election, another referendum with remain being an option and the remain vote winning.
If future governments want to try Brexit, perhaps they'll have more success by starting out with a plan.

I would like to endorse your cool rationale but do you think that is likely at the moment with the vicious right-wing empowered by a neo psychopathic Prime Minister?

If sanity is to be preserved we need to prove ourselves better than Johnson and ride out the storm because sooner or later, arrogance has its comeuppance and he will have his as sure as night follows day.

I will throw out this to you. There are going to be many demonstrations by both Remainers and Leavers in the run up to October 31st. Do you think it would be better for Remainers to keep their powder dry for now, let the leavers burn out their angst and then return to the offensive afterwards? Because at the moment, the High Court, the reaction of normal MPs and sanitised people has just provided the red blood to the frenzied mob and its millions of sympathisers, supporting a Johnson Brexit.

I absolutely believe that, yes. However violent and however extreme pro-brexit behaviour gets, it won't get what it wants as long as the rest of the population and establishment don't accept it as normal

As we know the rest of the population may be silently passive but may hold views that endorse the PMs conduct. I know quite a number of people in Fareham who may not endorse thuggery and intimidation, but are fully behind the PM and his so-called policies and have an abhorrence for political correctness, so don´t give a fig to the inciteful language that he used. And of course this "silent majority" are the ones who will decide the outcome of the next election.

PS: Hope I am totally wrong in this assessment and will be very pleased if this is the case but this will only become apparent after an election.

The actual mob is not made up of large numbers. They might make a lot of noise and may appear to have lots of support however that support will amount to nothing - a bit like Farage's infamous hike for a few miles with some angry pensioners.
What the population want, when push comes to shove, is to be able to feed their families, keep them safe and live their lives in freedom. Self interest will stop a violent fascist coup.
I know a few hard-line Brexit supporters who talk a good Riot. They are not capable of it though, as it would interfere with breakfast in weatherspoons and match of the day.

I am feeling genuinely unsettled, sad and disturbed by the way this country is going.
The Tory party has, in my opinion, descended to levels that don’t even register on the moral compass. Every day they set lower and lower standards for decency, for honesty and for never accepting responsibility for their actions, always looking to shift the blame on to others. But here’s the thing.
What is unsettling, saddening and disturbing me, isn’t just the behaviour of the government, but knowing that people I know, people I respect and people I love will continue to support them.
People who I know are decent and honest have effectively sold their souls to the devil and do not give a flying fig that the political party that they CHOOSE to support has become so abhorrent and the No Deal Brexit, some of them are baying for, will cause serious hardship for millions.
I know that my relationship with one of my siblings has become very strained, and is not likely to recover, but I no longer have the same level of respect, for her, that I once had, which is extremely sad.
I can’t help but feel that similar situations are happening throughout the country.
The Tory party has broken the country.

It’s peoples values that really count and remain relatively constant
Some people have been duped by the false promises of the brexiteers and still retain those same decent values
Some have found an outlet for the values that they weren’t being totally honest with us about
Maybe she is the former. If not you’ve just found out the truth ... which is sad

You can’t choose family
My mother read the Mail her entire life, but was a decent person all the same
My father was a true socialist, who always thought of other people

I didn’t talk politics with my mother too much except to suggest that there might be another side to the Mail’s little Engländer propaganda. She Was open to that

In line with Boris' idea of getting Brexit done to honour Jo Cox might I suggest that to honour war dead ( of which my grandfather was one btw) we erect a statue of Hitler at the cenotaph. On the subject of Brexit riots these may occur after a no deal if the supply of Werthers Originals gets disrupted.

Most people around the world get their impressions of the British from TV programmes. The most popular are Only fools and Horses and Midsommer Murders. My wife watches about 2 re-runs of Midsommer Murders a day. That's what the British are like she says, I've been to Stratford! Decent and rich. You know Midsommer has the highest murder rate in the world says I? Yes but they're not real murders, and you're more like Blackadder!

Sure you’re not Baldrick?

There was always a rule in my family............"You don't borrow money from friends, you don't talk about religion, and lastly you don't talk about politics". How difficult it is on at least one of those three over the last 3 years namely talking about politics. The way parliament is acting at the moment is it any surprise that the country is in turmoil. You have Boris trying to lead but doesn't have the personality, You have Corbyn who wants to lead but doesn't have a clue. Then you have a mixture between the other parties who just want votes and will change their minds along with the swing of the people. God help us all.........

Time to stockpile, include HP sauce, it's made in the Netherlands.
