The DUP!! They think they will hold the balance of power. Would TM really go into an alliance with a sectarian party?

DTLW says Tory since 1851 or something. He's saying that Emily Maitlis is wrong. Anyone going to tell her.?
Labour win Lincoln! Nice surprise for Imps when he awakes!
Yeah. You can see an argument for May staying and providing some sort of stability (HA!) and continuity but I think there will inevitably be another election relatively soon and I don't think she can conceivably lead the Tories into it.
No surprise. The Uni has turned Lincoln into a very tight marginal.
There won't be another election soon and May will stay on now until after Brexit. Then she will stand down and probably leave politics I would think.
It has been a swing seat for many an election. 1974/76 Labour, 1979 Tory, 1997 Labour, 2010/2015 Tory, 2017 Labour. Correct me if I am wrong IMPS.
In the South, the impressive result is Portsmouth South voting Labour. Despite being very much a "working class" city, Portsmouth is not really a hotbed of Labour voters, unlike the great city of Southampton with sometimes 2 Labour MPs and a Labour City council.
So not as changed a world as I was half expecting when I went to bed 4 hours ago but certainly an interesting 6 months ahead.
Big question - will this affect Brexit in any way?

Until they stitched us up with boundary changes, how can areas outside of the city limits be incorporated into a constituency?
****ing Royston Smith back in with about a majority of 35....![]()
Very similar to the Exeter / Plymouth Situation . I was stunned when Plymouth went to Labour in the night .
The cuts in the Royal Navy a factor maybe?

Yes it was a swing seat but with big winning margins through the 80s and 90s either way. Tories would win big or Labour would win big. Since the Uni started to explode it has become tighter and tighter. So it used to be a swing seat but now is a marginal. A thousand or 2 either way.
Uni opened in 96 but only 500 students back then. Since 2001 the majorities have shrunk and there have been no more big 10k+ margins.
In a City of circa 130,000 it makes a big difference now that the Uni of Lincoln alone has 13,000 students. Then the old Bishop Grosseteste Uni has another 2000.
We are over-run with (bloody) students here and all the investment goes into the university and not the locals. That causes a lot of resentment in the city. All we hear about is how much investment is being made in the city yet everything that happens is in that 1 mile square around the university.

Now confirmed by DUP announcement.May going to Buckingham Palace at 12:30. DUP have obviously agreed to assist her.
