My God this is so boring. This isn’t tribal. Please stop going on about left vs right. We aren’t 15. We know life is more complicated than that.
This week is racist vs not racist.
Multiculturalism vs nationalism.
Immigration: good or bad.
Left and right are both side players to those issues, but a group of about 3 people does nothing but post about the ‘battle’ between these ideologies.
Do you like racists? Everyone agrees no.
Is multiculturalism good? I think most of us like it. Most of us are concerned about integration. We could have a decent chat about making that work.
Do we want to better control our borders? Everyone agrees yes. We could discuss how this could work if people would just grow up.
But the next person who posts that the left is better or the right is better is officially a ****.
left is as bad as right and I think people are not really arguing about left and right themselves. They are talking about fairness (yes that sounds childish) in that right wing pricks doing bad things is stamped on while a lot of the same stuff on left wing issues is brushed off a lot of the time or excuses made of.
And your 3 vs above are a bit black and white, excuse the pun. For example, immigration is good and is necessary. Most righties would agree with that however that is not the issue for the majority on this issue. It is more about the sheer volumes, where they are placed, how it affects communities and most importantly cohesion. Most people do not have a problem with other people, they have a problem with how policies affect their own lives.
It is that latter part that has been allowed to be buried in the racist/fascist angle they use to ignore the questions and while governments for decades have been happy to pump money into London transport schemes they have not put much money into making sure that community's facilities, amenities, necessary improvements/increases to go along with the change in the areas. That is both side's that have ignored that part.
In a similar way that when a house builder wants to develop a large area they have to agree on a % of "affordable homes" and to build amenities for that community.......which in most cases they then ignore, build some of it, build less affordable homes than they promised and not as affordable as anyone would envisage but a blind eye is turned once they move on.
So just fairness and it is mostly a supposedly left wing angle because the tactics at the moment is to immediately close down discussion on anything not "on message" with slurs branding that argument as right wing or an 'ism or 'phobic. Not just on the immigration issue. Even feminists are denounced for not carrying today's message and prominent gay rights campaigners are denounced if they voice anything other than "today's" message.
The reason the left gets criticised so much is because unless someone agrees with 100% of their current message they label transgressors as right wing which obviously a lot aren't, and that they will not discuss things, they talk over dissentors and immediately label normal concerns as being extreme trying to join up any dissent into the same basket as very extreme views from very nast people.
A prime example is the knife crime problem where seemingly these politicians and community leaders want to only talk about "there's no youth club" as if that would be the magic bullet. As if these people would be going to youth clubs and ignoring that I personally can't remember there being youth clubs in my youth and knife crime was not the problem it was then, and then the other excuse often trotted out when % shows that there is a higher % of black people that are caught up in this they say it is due to the fact they have no other option in terms of prospects.
The reality there is that it isn;t anything really to do with black or white people, that is to do with good old "class" if you want to look into it as a demographic rather than the old vision of class in that the majority of these criminals are from poorer backgrounds and that there is a higher proportion of certain ethnicities in that bottom bracket. That does not change the fact that "there is no other choice" is not a good argument at all. I daresay if the government built 100s of youth clubs across these areas where knife crime is a problem we would see no change (if this was the only action) after 10 years and probably most would only have the young folk that wouldn't have gotten involved in crime anyway.
I liken it to the state's response (pretending) to try and improve young people's involvement in sports. They announce brand new 4G pitches and facilities as a great thing but then they charge more for the use of it so instead of having the good old fashioned football team playing on a bumpy pitch with nothing more than lines and goalposts for £1 or £2 a session, the price is now £5 to hire the 4G and it prices out a lot of people! Same as other sports. Participating in any sport these days is very very expensive and with so many cars on the road, mobile as well as parked, gone are the days of kids playing football in the road as they are immediately stopped by protective car owners, they are chased out of the parks, Signs up on every green space saying "No ball games." If you can't pay then kids quite literally can't play!
