Following castlegate, cronygate (more to come),partygate, swallow or spit gate and beergate what will the next gate(s) be I wonder?
Makes you wonder how the Tory press are going to report it... Oh here's The Scum's angle, Starmer was "LET OFF" by the Durham police. what a vile rag that is... https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/politics/19085001/keir-starmer-not-fined-over-beergate/
James O’Brien ripping into the Mail is good to listen to, but won’t persuade regular readers to ditch it because….. Well, because? Perhaps any readers of that lying rag, on here, can explain why they read it.
Starmer was never going to be fined for the beer and I just think that it was a non-story made up by the press. It will be intriguing to see how the press reports the leadership campaign as I can see a number of the papers actually getting behind Starmer. the candidates for Tory leader do not look too promising and, like the chao at Burnley FC, any appointment is purely on a basis of getting them fit for promotion next time around. I think the other parties will push for an election and get some traction from the media to support them. The usualsuspects will fall in line but I would not be shocked if at least one of the broadsheets fell in behind Labour - especially as they are now officially "Pro-Brexit." You do wonder how long it will take British politicians to appreciate that Brexit will never work. Press in some quarters reporting that more people are now in favour of rejoining.
The Daily Mail ran the story on their front page every day for two weeks until Durham Police caved in and reopened the investigation. Now the Fail is accusing Labour of putting pressure on Durham Police. As James O’Brien says, quoting Tony Benn, you never ever win, you just have to keep pushing.
James O'Brien highlighted that the Mail has failed on (at least) three fronts: Prince William, Boris, and Starmer. Oh what a shame. As a wider issue, the explosion of the Internet/Facebook/Twitter has meant that information (not necessarily accurate, I'll admit) is widely available, from sources other than the printed media, and/or TV and radio. As with all these things, people will find/follow/agree with/promulgate the stories that reflect their particular persuasion, but at least the general public are not solely limited to taking as gospel the stories peddled in the press. Right, whose turn for the soapbox?
I don't know why anyone would believe that guy's sensationalist bullshit, you'd have to be deluded and gullible to swallow that.
Is he wrong though?, there was a shameless attempt by the Tory press to make a false equivalence between the masses of misdemeanours of the Partygate scandal and one occasion when Starmer had a beer at a work meeting and this is borne out by police investigations and the Sue Gray report.
If you have a mind of your own you don’t have to rely on these people broadcasting it. It is there to be seen, if you look for it, although you don’t have to look too hard to see the Mail for what it is. If you disagree with his summation of the Mail, share your reasons with us.
