Backing out of the a EU withdrawal agreement. A bit like being a goal down with five minutes remaining and taking off two of your back four and putting on forwards. High risk. Apparently it wasn't oven ready at all.

Blaming the EU for sticking to their side of the agreement while reneging on ours would normally be the sort of thing that is all over every front page, but sadly the Tory faithful will just lap it up.

Which is why the Tories need to keep their propaganda sheets on the streets, and why they are looking to make what Extinction Rebellion did illegal.
Freedom of the press, apparently, but the same freedom doesn’t apply to papers like the Mirror, who are routinely ignored for interviews and likewise news shows with Piers Morgan, because they don’t want to be held to account or asked difficult questions, for fear that some of their voters might twig that they are being lied to.

So the Tories took 10 years to abandon the Compassionate Conservative routine that got David Cameron elected, and return to type as the Nasty Party. They are clearly calculating that this won’t cost them anything electorally, as they UK is fast becoming the Nasty Country (as shown by current attitudes to refugees, EU nationals, and pretty much any other foreigners that aren’t far right Americans or Australians).

Don’t think there is any risk involved at all as far as the Government is concerned the plan was always no deal, it’s just about who gets the blame.

In this scenario we didn’t field an XI and the manager spent the 90 minutes rehearsing his post match speech about how the opposition cheated by daring to field players.

You are preaching to the converted. What is needed is for the Express, Mail and Telegraph to start preaching the same message. They need to be more critical of this so-called UK Government, which is a Government of the few, by the few, for the few.

It seems that Johnson has told the Express that a No Deal Brexit would be “a good outcome”.
Probably for all his hedge fund buddies who are betting on the pound crashing, it will be.

He is also breaking the agreement of the international treaty signed by him and the members of the EU.

    Just stole this.

Scene: Whitehall; fearing for his career (again), the health secretary begs advice from his boss.

    ...

Hancock: There’s been an uptick in cases boss. What should we do?

    Cummings: We need a scapegoat.

Hancock: How about Starmer? We could call him a ninny?

Cummings: No that won’t work. God you’re useless.

    *The Prime Minister enters*

Johnson: Look at me! Guys... guys... look! I can juggle!

    Cummings: Not now Boris.

    Johnson: But...

    Cummings: NOT NOW!

Johnson: ...I just wanted approval... I just want.. my daddy’s approval..

    *The Prime Minister exits; dejected*

Cummings: Why don’t we pin it all on that useless health secretary? Bring in somebody more mailable?

    Hancock: ...that’s actually me, sir.

    Cummings: ...

Hancock: But the Education Secretary... he’s really messed up recently. We could...

*Gavin Williamson emerges from behind a curtain; Hancock shrieks and dives under a desk, trembling; cowering*

Williamson: I know where the bodies are buried.

*Williamson descends, slowly, through a loose floorboard*

Cummings: Have we maligned any foreigners today?

Hancock (still under the desk): Yes sir. Quite a few, in fact.

    Cummings: What about Brussels?

    Hancock: Well... we could...

Cummings: I’VE GOT IT... young people.

    Hancock: Young people, sir?

Cummings: We haven’t scapegoated young people in a while. They don’t vote for us...

Hancock: But sir... haven’t we just forced them all back to school and univers...

Cummings: DO NOT ANSWER ME BACK YOU FECKLESS WORM!

Hancock (hands over his eyes; sat, knees tucked up to his chest; rocking): Aaaah... s.. s.. sorry sir. You’re r..right! It’s genius! You’re a.. a.. a.. once in a generation m.. mind.. sir!

    Cummings: God you’re useless.

*Michael Gove enters; slithering; eyes red; forked tongue flickering*

Gove: Dom, I’ve just put Borissss down for his nap. Who are we blaming for the rissse in cassssessss? Alssso, why issss Hancock under the desssk? You know what... never mind.

    Cummings: Kids.

    Gove: Perfect.

Cummings: We’ll say that their refusal to follow the rules is putting lives at risk.

Gove: Great! What about maligning foreignersss?

    Cummings: We’re already on it.

    Gove: Ssspectacular. Hancock, get up.

*Hancock scurries out from behind the desk, shaking*

Gove: Dom is WhatsApping Laura now. Get ready.

*Gove exits; his slime trail pops and fizzles behind him*

Cummings: HANCOCK... your lines are as follows: young people are disobeying the rules. The rules are simple and easy to follow.

Hancock: ...umm... in case I get asked... what are the rules again?

Cummings: I have no idea, but don’t worry, we’ll only give you to media stooges.

    Hancock: Not Piers?

Cummings: No, Matt. Not Piers. Don’t worry.

Hancock: What if someone on twitter points out that you... you know... broke the... you know...

Cummings: play the culture war card. Call them a Remoaner, then dead cat the **** out of Extinction Rebellion.

Hancock: Yes sir. Really pleased we’re finally prioritising the lives of our elderly.

Cummings: You’re as stupid as they come, Hancock. Get out of my sight.

Hancock: yes sir... right you are sir... I’m the stupidest...

*Hancock exits; teary-eyed; quietly sobbing; still worried about his career. Cummings takes a long sip of his black coffee. It’s cold. He likes it.*

    End.

If we leave without a deal I would imagine that a lot of more sensible Tories will have major reservations about the direction the party is going in. I think Boris is heading for a train crash. There was an article in the Sunday Telegraph yesterday which suggested that his popularity rating amongst Conservative members had dropped to 24% amid growing concern that he is not up to the job. The general public has lost confidence and there are grumbling amongst his fellow MPs that Covid has resulted in the diminution of his faculties. There was a further revelation regarding the debacle at PM's questions where Boris is supposed to have been incandescent with rage having been poorly briefed before appearing before Parliament. It also suggested that Sunak was maneuvering himself in to position as a potential successor with Boris allegedly keen to put the brakes on the Chancellor's ambitions. Given that this was coming from a Right Wing newspaper, the dissatisfaction appears to be quite widespread.

There is no way that Boris will remain at the helm for the duration of this parliament and, I would argue that is he has a "Gillian Duffy moment" with a member of the public, the credibility will shrink even further. I really get the sense he is already fatally compromised and both the printed and television media are circling anticipating the next big political story.

I would suggest that no matter how low his popularity might be, with Tory members, if Johnson called a general election for next week, they would all still vote for him.
Party always comes first, at whatever cost to the country.

I think that ended when the coalition did. As much as they have been battered for their time there and tuition fees was a fiasco, events since the Conservatives gained majority control show that the Lib Dem's did have some kind of influence.

A crooked outdated 'democratic' political system based on precedent and gentlemen's agreements, with a dodgy voting system behind it and the former class based education system leaving the people educated under it susceptible to manipulation (as shown in the Brexit demographics), which the Conservatives quite fancy returning to funnily enough.

The lack of legally binding constitution and failure to modernise the electoral system made Britain a soft target for this.
