He can win trophies in an inferior league or he can continue to manage a smaller club in the best league in the world and also earn more money. He'll only be able to win a league with luck. Porto are too good, or should I say too corrupt.

Cant be bothered to read all six pages of responses to this story, but interested in the genral consesus of oppinions which certainly on page one suggests no one wants MP to leave under any circumstance.
I too want him to stay, but from a point of view of stability, not because he's Mauricio Pochettino. We as a group of fans seem to be rating him very very highly.
For me, the jury is very much still out on MP and on whether NC has made the correct decision in NA's removal and MP appointment.
The second half of the season saw some marque results such as Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool, which were the opposite to NA's results apart from Chelsea where we drew. But we also saw some pretty poor results too, noteably the home defeat to QPR, draw with West Ham and West Brom (all games we should of got something out of).
Benfica is a big club with Champions League football, that said the Portugease League isn't the Prem/La Liga or even Germany, France or Italy. It's an inferior league. If he wants to make a name for himself I'd say he has a better chance of doing so here.
Maybe the transfer warchest isn't available...? Maybe the language barrier is more of a problem than the club lets on - lets not forget the only English interview is still that at the players awards evening, where the questions will have been rehearsed.
I'm apprehensive about the summer in terms of transfer targets as I don't think that an influx of foreign players is what would benefit the club most and most names linked so far have been from abroad.
If MP has been offered it and wants to leave then, bye bye as far as I am concerned, but I hope for the sake of club stability and the fact that a good manager lost his job for this guy that this hasn't been one waste of time.

I think you're still hung up on Adkins.
It wouldn't be good for the club to lose a manager right now. Especially not Pochettino at this juncture. Like you say, if he wants to go, then please do go. You highlight West Ham and West Brom results, yet Adkins obtained no more points from these two fixtures. I think our team were seriously fatigued at the end of the season. Pochettino had said that certain players were nt as fit as he would've expected. Overall I feel he has shored us up more. We look more solid, but have suffered from poor finishing, yes, I'm associating that with attacking players such as Lambert, Rodriguez, Lallana, who need to become more potent. The defence has improved, but MP cannot account for individual efforts by attackers in matches.
Like it or not, foreign imports are a growing necessity. We already have a fair few, and we are certainly going to see a few more this summer. Coupling with our current crop and the academy boys, I see no reason for concern about any potential issues here. You can buy higher quality, cheaper, abroad. It's a fact. I've no doubt the club will look for British talent from lower down the ladder, but we would be foolish to solely rely on the English market for our transfers.
Like you say, Benfica is a relatively attractive opportunity. Although it offers less of a challenge perhaps, it gives him higher chances of picking up medals and getting noticed by other clubs. Saints is a big job for Mauricio st this moment in time. He could really make his name here. Equally, it could fail and his reputation aes a knock and he more than likely returns to Spain to coach a smaller side. Unless, of course, he has the same agent as Mark Hughes or Iain Dowie.
I liked Nigel Adkins, but must confess that I was far from convinced in his abilities in the Premier League. A great guy who perhaps deserved more time, but Cortese didn't want to risk sentimentality affecting results, as Adkins had allowed it to with the goalkeeping saga. Ultimately, at this moment in time, he would, to my mind, be adjudged to have made the right decision. We survived. We finished 14th, one place higher than when we were when Nicola opted to make a managerial change. I by no means believe MP is fully settled. He also needs a preseason and season for us to see what he is really about and what he can do so far.
I think you are being overly negative. Reports of an €18m bid would, to my mind, assure me there were significant funds at his disposal. The language also, I do not believe that interview was particularly rehearsed, due to the nature of its production and execution. The guy has only been here four months, and has been managing a Premier League football club, successfully I might add, whilst trying to pick up the lingo. He has also highlighted he is now having daily lessons with a personal tutor. I believe you could probably benefit with reading the other pages rather than just coming out with stuff like you have. Some of which has already been thoroughly addressed.
So far, I have been encouraged by Pochettino. I like his style, his demeanour and his approaches. Whether he can push us on and on over a longer period of time remains to be seen. But at this juncture, it would be rest gutting to lose such a well-regarded young coach, and begin searching again.

Unless something is seriously wrong, I don't think Mauricio will leave a job he has only just started. There are always job chances...as I said before, he is young enough to spend a few years here and still get an attractive job elsewhere. Being asked isn't the same as leaving.

Think we are in danger of inventing problems such as family and your suggestion about players. They only come into play if he chooses to leave...have nothing to do with an offer being made.
Now in the Echo. Doesn't mean it is any more likely, but means other press will pick it up. For information, Echo doesn't think it is likely to happen. And in the comments section, one person said Benfica are broke and probably couldn't afford MP.

From what I've seen I thought the prospective club had to ask permission of the current club to speak to the manager, and offer compensation to buy him out of his contract, does anyone know how long Pochettino's contract is?
