plastic fans?

I knew a guy who was in prison once and he had to share a cell with this mutated excuse for Northern Irish humanity.

He claimed that he loved the Rangers and had Rangers badges above his bunk.

When asked, he couldn't name a single player or explain the offside rule.

In one of his weaker moments, he confessed that he only "followed" the Rangers because he was a raging bigot and had seen other bigots wearing their famous blue top.

On top of that, McEwan's Lager was his favourite "pish-emulator" and he really, really fancied Tina Turner who he said was their greatest ever manager.

His cellmate was an American with an Irish surname who supported Celtic and was, by curious virtue of dichotomy, a veritable lexicon on the finer points of association football.




I'm just giving an example, the clubs and individuals involved and the correlation with my own prejudices are completely coincidental <ok>

Not an argument, an observation.

To you a Plastic fan is some guy (in a doubtless apocrophyl tale) who supported Celtic.

I think Sheikh Mastonna summed it up better than me though. <ok>

Why don't you try reading over it again.

Someone who says they support a team but can't name a single player past or present, claiming in this instance that they follow the club because of what they stand for.

That is a plastic fan.

i think that sums it up for me too
i support leicester (well somone has to!!!) but I always look for the result for Lincoln City
 
I support Leicester but can only get to 4/5 games a season, but will check my local teams results, Northampton, Milton Keynes, Rushden Diamonds ... actually scratch that last one <laugh>

I don't think anyone that posts on these boards can be considered plastic.
 
I only went to 3 games last season. Which was 2 more than each Premiership season. I don't care if people think I am a 'plastic fan'. I would rather spend my money in a nightclub - £15 for 10 hours entertainment is far better value than £25 for 1.5 hours entertainment (plus injury time).

I'll try to go to 4 this season - all away games preferably.

i think percy is either TonyM or another TONYM...

he really pissed me off with his comments about players and tactics when he hadnt even seen the game..

the HDM sites **** really i kept getting banned for some reason..

think tonym went off the site when he forgot to delete his real name and put in TonyM in his profile...

Dont know what he was worried about....do i miss him ?....not really

BUT i sure would like to know how BobbytheTiger is doing as he had been in hospital a few times
only after the site change he hasnt been seen on the threads....

To be fair Dev - Celtic have more than their fair share of plastic fans.

It goes with being a club that pretends to represent all things false and plastic paddyish.
 
I've enjoyed scrolling through the debate, we've had it before and we'll have it again..

Everyone's got their own way of supporting their team, "plastics" usually piss you off cos they don't really have much knowledge of the game other than BIG results, how many PLs or FA Cups their team has won.. I don't really mind the "part-timers" who you see down the pub on cup final day supporting one team or the other, it's usually quite clear how much of a fan the person is after about 5 mins. I guess is just comes down to what Bernstein said about integrity and being honest..

Am I a plastic fan cos I started supporting City in the 80s when they were flying high in the second division under Horton? Because there was a centre-fold poster of the team which I stuck up on my bedroom wall...?

In the 90s I moved abroad and so didn't see very much of the football we played in the dark days.. that didn't mean it didn't hurt to read that we'd being knocked out of the Cup by non-league Kettering.. a very low point.

It annoyed me when I used to regularly lose the beer bets with my Brighton supporting flat-mate in Turkey.. we used to put bets on the two fixtures and I invariably lost..

Even though I'm "City til I die" I would say my Dad is a bigger fan than me (he now lives in France like me) - he turned down the chance to watch City at the KC in the PL (he's only ever seen them at Boothferry Park), said he would probably have a heart attack cos he gets too stressed during a game, so he can't watch the games but he certainly lives and breathes the Tigers, my mum says he has an up-week or a down-week depending on the results.. so he doesn't go to games anymore and he doesn't buy the shirts, but he'll devour every book I buy on the club.. that's a true fan.
