Why do people care about what a plastic is? Your support is between you and your conscience. You know whether you're a loyal fan or not. If someone wants to support Liverpool or United, then switch allegiance to their local team when they reach the prem - that's for them to get their heads round - but I won't criticise them for it. The ****s in this world are the ones who vanish when the bad times hit. There's a million and one ways to be drawn to a team, and you can go to a team at any age, but dump them when the going gets tough, and that's what makes you a plastic. That's what I think anyway.
for me I'm a fan of football - I'll watch whatever match is on Sky but I support Hull City and I'll go to as many of their games as funds will allow. One thing that bugged me was i've been going to see City ever since we were in the bottom division, but i've never been able to afford a season ticket so i've always either gone on the day or bought a ticket to games a week before, however as soon as we get promoted, I cant get to a single game becuase season tickets have just flown off the shelves. :/ In the 2 seasons we were in the premier league I was only able to get tickets to 4 home games :/
I can't get to many City games, 2 games in 3 years but I have excuses, financial and location. Even as a child City was 'my' team, and always will be. But I don't class myself as a supporter because of it, but wherever I go, City are the club I class as mine. The team I support now, in the context of going to every game, is a small club 4 levels below City, Hampton & Richmond Borough FC, and that's cos they thought I would make a good press officer. Did I tell you that we beat a QPR XI in our first preseason friendly?
A plastic fan in my mine would be someone who says they support a club but no nothing about them. An example is my cousin who lives out in New Hampshire in the states. His da was from Belfast so from an early age he had always followed and played football. He followed in his da's footsteps following Rangers FC. My cousin who only gets over to the U.K every few years last year told me when he was over about him and his college friends playing FIFA in their dorms. He was playing as Rangers against another friend who was playing as an English side. One of the guys from their dorms came into the room and seen that someone was playing as Rangers. He asked who it was and then told of his love for Celtic FC. My cousin asked him if he was in a supporters club out in the states. he told him he wasn't. He asked him if he had ever seen them play, he hadn't. he said as the fella watched them play FIFA it was quite clear that he hadn't a clue about football. My cousin asked him who his favourite player was at the minute. He told them he didn't have one and he liked them all. He asked him who is favourite ever player was and again he couldn't name a player. He told him that if he couldn't name one player there was no way he was a fan. His response was; He didn't follow football or the squad that much but more so what the club stood for. So basically he said he supported them because he was maybe part Irish-American, exactly the same as my cousin.
A plastic is someone who pretends to be a fan or pretends to have been a fan. It is not as some would claim: * A new fan - even if they only started supporting during the good times. Every fan was new at some point and we all joined for some reason, whether it was the team being successful or our dad taking us. * A fan who doesn't get to games - Not always possible, work, family, money, other hobbies all mean some of the biggest fans I know only get to 5-10 games a year. * A fan who isn't local - I see ho reason not to support your local team, but I also see no reason why you cant support more than one. Just be honest about your fanddom, if you are new or dont know much then admit it, plenty will help.
Actually its Walt Jacsbo, an image created by Jerry Dammers, to front the two tone record label, created from an old photo of Peter Tosh.
This is exactly where plastic fans cause real fans to feel bitter. Iv'e had a pass for years, but i do know real fans like yourself who found themselves in the same boat as you.You cant help but feel angry, when you know fans are missing premier games after going to watch and support their club all the way from div 4 to the top. I have an Villa mate, who lives in Hull(he's from Birmingham) and when he couldn't get a ticket to support his team in the away end at the KC,i suggested he just get home ticket. He refused, because he didn't want to take a Hull fans seat. He,i suggest is a real fan !
VERY SIMPLE. A person who comes and supports just for any glory that the club is enjoying at that moment in time. Its short term support yet the person says that they have been a supporters for years. Thats very plastic. imo.
I don't think it really matters. Some fans who have never seen their teams play live are really knowledgable and you can have a great conversation with them. Others that go home and away can be arrognat, ignorant pricks. What i really hate though is fans of big teams belittling those who support the smaller ones as though their opinion is not as important. We're all watching the same game for crying out loud! I'm a Watford fan as I was born there and my cousins took me when i was young.
The front two rows at Old Trafford are mainly filled with plastic daytrippers. It makes me laugh the abount of camera flashes that go off as soon as a United player gets with 20 yards of them!
You have posted a long winded story based upon nothing but hearsay evidence and your own prejudice, let others judge your motives.
I posted a story about my interpretation about what the term plastic fans meant, afterall, that is what El Barninho asked. I gave an example of someone who doesn't even follow football but said they supported a club. And yet again here you are wanting to have an arguement. Can you remind us what the term Devil's Advocate means again?
I was born in Hull so i support HULL CITY.....simple as that And i dont have a second team, though i was pleased that wimbledon got into the leagues last season..And i do want who ever is playing leeds scum to beat them...
You seem to know, why don't you go off on anther tedious spiel about your "Personal" interpretation which seems to be that a Devil's Advocate is someone who argues just because they like arguing. Is that right? I've told you about getting youself a dictionary.
A plastic is someone who claims to watch the team they support......yet in reality they never go..... or maybe thats just becaus i hate liars and phoneys ?
Poster asks for everyone's opinion on what a plastic fan is. I give an example, Devil's Advocate wants to start an argument over it. Surprise, surprise.
