The cynic in me (and I am not alone in Pompey thinking this!) thinks that there is a chance that they didn't have the on-pitch heaters on (under the covers) because they can't afford it... Also remember they now have the ticket money in the bank, but have no outgoings for today...

I may be a cynic, but this is a win win day for Pompey! How annoying because although there was going to be a big crowd (huge push to support the club today) I fancied us for a rout today and possibly our biggest win of the season...

Oh well, roll on the Tuesday night game...

Club don't receive any cash until the game has been played, so were as desperate as anyone for it to be on today!

Rout? Really? We're unbeaten at Fratton since September, have scored 15 & only conceded 4 in that time. You have to remember that last time we played each other the bloomin' useless Cotterill was in charge...

Every game we play (or don't in this case) someone predicts a rout. The theory is that we create loads of chances every game but our useless strikers miss them all, and one day if the strikers do learn to shoot we will hammer someone.

Trouble is, we've been saying it for about a year now...

It's the accent we don't pronounce the first T in trout.

Doesn't say much about Portsmouth then if a lower league side can keep their ground playable. If my memory serves me right didn't the same thing happen when we played them in the Prem

I don't think so, I've just checked and we played them in March (the Garcia's face on the line game) and November in the PL, both on Saturdays. The November wouldn't have been a rearranged game because of a frozen pitch, and the March game there was a full schedule.

Can home fans not buy tickets in advance using cash then?

It's a ridiculous theory though, for starters it'll reduce the amount of fans who are able to travel to the rearranged date so they'll receive less money in future. As it's the pitch and not the surrounding areas that have caused the replay I think we can claim travel and hotel expenses for the team for the replay against the gate receipts.

Before I came on here I thought I was the type of person who always saw conspiracies even where there were none to be seen, but some people can take it a hell of a lot further than I do.

I know it was the ref , I said it should have been called off yesterday because there was no chance of it going ahead

no need to leave it until today

Fair comment NT, but can a club call off a match without a FA official inspecting the pitch? or can a club advise the FA the day before that it forsees it may have a pitch problem and that it advises that it be cancelled.

The club can advise.

There are very few people who pay cash before hand now, but yes I suppose that could happen. Not sure how the system would work in that case, but officially, no club gets any ticket money until the game has been played. I remember when we were in the PL & had a game called off we had this big thing about it being the worst possible timing for us because of that reason.

I do feel sorry for anyone that lost money traveling down today- as I say everyone down here was desperate for the game to be on!
