If that is in fact the case it would be so easy for Adams to release a statement explaining that Pilkington wanted a new challenge etc and thanking him for his services to the club.
Instead he keeps taking us for idiots by claiming all these players that want out or he wants out are injured , if we can`t trust those in charge it`s pretty worrying.
Other managers seem to do be able to do this, maybe hint where he wants to strengthen his side.

Pilks was one of my favourite players at our club. In his first few seasons he was consistently performing impressively well. I see I'm not the only one to notice that consistency has been severely lacking for a while. His last few appearances were shockers by his high standards.

Quite simply whether or not Adams is trying to be a bit too sweet with the media, none of us know for sure what strings are being pulled, by whom, or for what reason.

The black and white is there is a new manager and new 'regime' that I'm sure won't suit everyone at the club. There will be lots of 'talk'. Others will leave,. Who wouldn't expect that?

Until Christmas and maybe even until after the January transfer window there will be lots of speculation, rumours and agitation. If we are lucky, if some of our players perform well enough, if our management team do a half decent enough job, we may just be in the hunt for promotion after all that runs its course.

Yes, lets all get real and if we are "lucky" some (thats some) of our players perform well enough and our management do a half decent job (which is of course quite acceptable) so that we "may" be in the hunt for promotion.

Totally negative claptrap.

Best squad in the Division, healthy bank balance and this is what people think we should be expecting. Unbelievable.

I don't know what the hell is going on with this forum. A couple of months ago I commented that Adams had said something which was not completely true and I was shot down in flames - nobody in football tells the truth - you reduce your negotiating power - you reduce a players value etc etc. Now, in line with the new policy of moaning about everything our Manager and Board do, they should tell every bit of the truth come what may. The fitness comment was made on Sunday to explain a players absence. At that stage Adams knew that Pilkington had refused to sign a new contract and that negotiations, that take days even weeks and are supposed to be kept confidential, were well advanced to sell him to Cardiff. How could he answer the question truthfully? For goodness sake get off Adams back - it is all self defeating.

I fully agree.

At the moment Adams can do no right as far as some are concerned. He could sign Messi & Ronaldo for a pound each and a pound a week wages and some on this board would still find something to moan about. I'm not sugesting Adams is the best thing since sliced bread, but I can't really see what he's done that is so bad, so far.
 
Not defending the decision to sell Pilks, which I still think was wrong, but let me just say two words - Keith O´Neill - for those who don´t remember him, also a winger with bucketsful of talent and potential, we were all very excited when he arrived ( as a 19 yr old I think), and were just waiting for him to tear defences apart. He never did, just like Pilks he seemed to be made of glass from the hips down, and was crocked more often than not, certainly left us without fulfilling any of the potential he had, and don´t remember him ever making a name for himself after that. I can certainly see the similarity between them.
 
O'Neill was all potential - Pilks is a proven premiership performer. 13 goals in 60 in our first two seasons in the prem - then injured and sucked into the Hughton black whole of negativity. Think we'll regret this one.

No matter how good or bad he is/was 2 facts are indisputable

a) He is very injury prone. He had a bad injury record before we signed him and it has continued here. There are rumours that he has ongoing problems with his shins, can't train as fully as he should and often plays with pain-killing injections. Who knows how many starts we might have got out of him next year.

b) He had refused a new contract and would have left for nothing at the end of the season as well as being able to speak to other Clubs in 4 months time. Even wealthy Premiership Clubs are forced to sell in that situation.

When our income has dropped £30m and savings have to be made we had no option but to sell and in fact to get back what we paid for him is good business.

I think the money received is irrelevant. Whats important is going up and for 1 million pounds why would you get rid of such a proven performer. It is ridiculous, unambitious and stupid all rolled into one.

What on earth are they playing at.
 
Carrabuh - based on where he's gone, it is abundantly apparent that the amount we were prepared to pay Pilks didn't match the amount he expected to receive. Simple as.

I don't see how any other conclusion can be drawn, or for that matter why it's a big deal. If Pilkington wanted bigger wages than the board felt they could afford, then I think they've made the right decision. I'd rather our club didn't go bust, personally.
