Interestingly, the Pink Un message board, which is usually much more negative than here, seems fairly sanguine about this. Quite a lot of posters saying he's no big loss.
It looks like he clashed big time with Adams and had to go. If so, and he was undermining the manager's work, he really did have to go. No manager of any kind can allow that to happen.
I just wish Adams would choose to say nothing public on an issue unless he was forced to. He's trying to work the media and it's making him look like a liar and a yes man. You don't have to like a manager, but you do have to trust him.

What I find hard to fathom about this is did he have a medical? This normally takes a few days to do and assess the results, so how come this deal has happened so fast? There is absolutely no news about it on Sky transfer centre on the internet.

What I said is in my view is that Redmond is more important to our long term future. If Redmond isn't more important then what you are effectively saying is you'd rather sell Redmond than Pilkington.

Sounds like a done deal then, but for more than being reported so far.

If he's unhappy here for some reason and we can get something like £3m with add ons - which would be a profit on the £2m we paid for him - then it would make at least a bit more sense. If it is only something derisory like £1m then I still don't get it.
£3m would seem like a fairer deal considering he is in his last year of contract and bearing in mind his injury record from the last 3 years.
I'm still not happy at all that he is being sold, I would rather lose him on a free at the end of the year.

I wouldn't choose to sell either, but I'm struggling to think beyond this season at the moment and on that basis, yes, I would prefer to sell Redmond because I think Pilkington is the better player. I understand your point is about long term value, but people's high valuations of Redmond must include some big assumptions about his ability to improve - something I am beginning to doubt.
Have you lost your grip on reality? He fell out with Adams because he was not interested in signing a new contract and therefore would have left on a free at the end of the season. He would have been free to talk to other Clubs in 4 months time and if he does, and sorts out his longer term future, what interest is he going to have in NCFC? Didn't you see enough of Bassong last year to show you what a disinterested player plays like? Pilkington is injury prone. If he breaks down again completely we would see little of him next year and even if he didn't we would be lucky to get 20 games out of him. He is a talented player but, despite the myths that have sprung up about him in the last 24 hours by the ' anti Adams and anti McNally' brigade, he hasn't managed to string together 3 decent performances in the last 2 seasons and most of us had him down for next season as a squad player at best. Throw away £3m on that? Who do you think we are - Chelsea? As Supers has mentioned many times our income has reduced by £30m or, put another way, we have to reduce our spending by £30m. With the reduction in the wage bill and the incoming transfer fee we save £5m of that with Pilkington. Do that or keep him and lose £5m in the hope we get a few decent performances out of him next season rather than what we have seen in the last 2 seasons? It's a no-brainer
Medical reportedly happening today, along with Sean Morrison from Reading (which is a shame because I think he would be a decent signing for us as back-up to Turner, though I guess he would want to start).

I agree. His performances were, broadly, excellent. It was his injury record that deteriorated from already pretty bad.
As for refusing to sign a contract - I'd have said that's pretty obvious though. We obviously have offered him a new one which he has turned down. Fair enough, as is his right. He's gone to Cardiff because they'll pay more than we will at a similar level. I suspect none of the PL clubs would be prepared to pay him more given his injury record. Seems a no brainer to me.
£3m seems pretty fair if true. 12 months on his contract, not wanting to stay because of wage demands, good deal. Holty went for less than that (and was a much bigger loss than Pilks will be IMO).
Why would he go to Cardiff? More money? Signing on fee? Less competition for a starting place when/if he is fit? Fancies sheep? I don't know - you will have to ask him. Why wouldn't he go to Cardiff? Potentially they are a bigger Club than us and have just as much chance as us of getting promotion.
At this stage I'd say Cardiff probably have a slightly better chance.

Agree with 1950 - sadly this forum increasingly defaults to outrage and contempt given any opportunity.
Pilks was one of my favourite players at our club. In his first few seasons he was consistently performing impressively well. I see I'm not the only one to notice that consistency has been severely lacking for a while. His last few appearances were shockers by his high standards.
Quite simply whether or not Adams is trying to be a bit too sweet with the media, none of us know for sure what strings are being pulled, by whom, or for what reason.
The black and white is there is a new manager and new 'regime' that I'm sure won't suit everyone at the club. There will be lots of 'talk'. Others will leave,. Who wouldn't expect that?
Until Christmas and maybe even until after the January transfer window there will be lots of speculation, rumours and agitation. If we are lucky, if some of our players perform well enough, if our management team do a half decent enough job, we may just be in the hunt for promotion after all that runs its course.
