I used to play in goal for a really **** U12s team and we conceded loads every week. Even at that age people knew it wasn't always the keeper's fault and shared responsibility. I find it incredible that as grown ups we're seriously debating whether it's the keepers fault that we're ****, when he hasn't actually made a mistake yet, and in fact had a really good game yesterday.

I recaĺl the manager saying that playing Marshall gave the team confidence. What went wrong with that one, PLT?

I really don't know how to answer that.

Obviously playing a particular goalie isn't going to somehow make everyone confident when they're getting comprehensively beaten every week.

I don't know why people are complicating this Marshall situation so much, he had a good game. Look at the highlights. Three excellent saves. Jakupovic is our third choice keeper and has never been anything more than that at this level.

Marshall goalkeeping-wise has done very little wrong, and neither has Jak. I think what Jak brings to the side is his enthusiasm, when he plays he brings a certain vitality to the proceedings. That is something we really need just now.

Can you imagine if Phelan justified not playing Hernandez by saying that Keane "brings a certain vitality" although "striking wise Hernandez has done very little wrong". He'd be crucified.

So you are saying that the difference between Jak and Marshall, is the same as Keane and Hernandez, sorry that is nonsense. IMO Jak did nothing wrong and to lose his place to Marshall, was only that Phelan spunked a lot of money on him.

I'd say the difference is much more clear. Jakupovic has somehow become everyone's favourite but he's never been a first choice keeper here and probably never will be. Marshall has been a quality keeper for years and has proven himself at this level. If McGregor hadn't been injured, Jakupovic wouldn't have started any games and wouldn't even be on the bench now. It's bizarre to attribute our ****ness to the goalkeeper.

I think people are looking for these simple reasons why we're ****. It must be the formation or players not in their 'correct' positions, or the keeper ffs. Maybe it's a bit deeper than any of that.

Jak has improved as a keeper, and if it was just between McGregor and Jak now, I certainly don't think McGregor would walk straight back into the team.

Marshall hasn't impressed me as much as I thought he would, I have no doubt he is a good keeper, but since he has been in we have been woeful. I was just making the point at the moment you need characters on the field to get some enthusiasm instilled into the team and the supporters, there was no one on Satdee trying to lift the team or the atmosphere in the stadium, and it wouldn't do any harm to give Jak the jersey at the moment.

I love the way people keep going on about how bad Stoke were. They turned our defence into patè. How many times did they get behind the defence, one on one, good chances in and around the 6 yard box. Arnautovic really should have had 2, Bony back when he played at Swansea would absolutely have put the two blinding chances he had away and got 2 himself. Joe Allen got in behind a few times. We were really fortunate not to ship 6 again, Marshall is a large part of why we didn't. And people are slating him!!

****ing idiots I swear. Can't see wood for trees.

But he was injured. That's how players get their chance. That's how Jakupovic helped win us the play off final and was technically excellent in those opening games.

He's not become a favourite by chance, if you ask me he's had to do more than would normally be required to earn the fans respect due to his chequered past.

He has rightly earnt all the accolades for performances both in the run up to our play off final success and his appearances in the PL. Marshall has some way to go to earn that same level of respect. Frankly he hasn't looked a patch on Jakupovic.

When you're conceding like we are at the minute the simplest conclusion is that it has to be the goalie.. alas our problems lay much deeper .. since Phelan brought in 'his' signings we are being overrun in midfield .. while there is a player there in Mason he is very lightweight .. Jake has been played in cd and now he has been moved back into midfield seems to be finding it difficult to readjust .. what people must understand is that we lost pretty much 60% of our defence from last year's as well .. young robbo while looking good last year has been shown this year to have serious flaws in his defensive game .. Elmo has always been suspect defensively .. hence why it astounds me that he has persisted with a flat back four .. get back to 3-5-2 .. we haven't got a lot of mobility in midfield but at least with two up top it's gives us options to not only hold the ball up but to put the opposing defence under a little bit of pressure .. lets be honest we are sadly lacking in areas but for now we've got what we've got .. decent managers recognise that .. alas it seems Phelan is looking like a little boy lost at the moment
