I'd offer £2.5 million rising to £3 million if we stay up. He's reportedly on £36k a week, so if its not about money maybe he would come for less? At 31 we shouldn't be paying over the odds for him. Also he's coming into the last year of his contract at WBA - maybe we should wait till January?
I dont think he's motivated by money, I think he's motivated by living in London. If he didnt like Brum (I assume he lived there) then he's hardly likely to love living in Ull.
Disagree about us signing a target man. City are very rarely going to be controlling a game this season, most teams will be playing a high line against us so the space will be in behind the oppositions defence. We need an intelligent and relatively quick striker.
I do think we need an experienced Premier League striker-one who is a proven goalscorer at that level, which Odemwingie certainly is. We are being linked with Championship strikers, who although they may have Prem potential, haven't actually done the business as yet. As OLM said, Odemwingie hasn't actually done anything criminal, just been a bit of a dickhead
His actions in January were ill advised. He accepts that. Like others say, he's not broken the law and before January nobody would have called him a ****. That said, if we do sign him we'll have to hide his car keys after Christmas
The way this thread is going, I sense a lot of people have acquired that nasty infection called Bullarditis. A particularly nasty little bug that causes the sufferer to rationalise away all previous past experience to the contrary, leading to recurring and disastrous loss of financial security.
I would take him , but wouldn't offer him big wages , see if what he is preaching is true , we're else can you get a ready made prem striker for that price ?
Not really, much of the Bullard issue was orchestrated by piss poor administration. We were advised from his medical not to sign him - We signed him. We didn't protect ourselves against his wages subject to injury or relegation - worst case scenario possible - we achieved both. Aside from the fact that he was a complete and utter ****, which should have come across when both parties met, within 2 minutes they could have seen that the twat wasn't for us. Odemwingie whilst trying to push through a move to another club, without permission, isn't really the greatest misdemeanour. He's still much less of a **** than Marlon King.
Didn't Odemwingie end up as one of the PL top scorers a year or two ago? He's a great player. And I don't think he's that Aluko like. Aluko causes havoc, beating men and takes set pieces etc. Odemwingie is a proper centre-forward and a quality finisher.
He's 31, on hefty wages and West Brom want £3(+) million for him - if it's true that Charlie Austin (at 23 and on less wages) can be got for £4 million, I know who I'd prefer us to go for. Build for the future, not for just one season. Coupled with his ability to simply discard a club he's playing for and being paid by, it could be a risky move. Imagine if he's our main goalscorer, looking set for a mid-table finish come the end of the season if we carry on at the same rate we have in the first half of the season - January turns up and his goal-scoring exploits have attracted interest from other clubs and he wants out, leaving our second half of the season in tatters. That said, if we sign him, I'll back him and back Brucie - at least he'd guarantee goals.
Thanks to Bernstein Tiger and We Are Hull who have just put me back in green - maybe I should go spreading some love.
Could not agree more with ^^^^ this. Rumour has it he turned up at our Cottingham training ground this morning and was told to feck off.
Thing is Dazzar we need all the above and more. We haven't been a proper threat up front for ages, we will be a club facing the Premier league without the services of a decent striker that got us there! I think we need 3 strikers (a proven, a gamble and a wild card) a proven would be Odemwinge 1 in 3 in the Premier League for £4m is pretty good value. A gamble Austin or Rhodes or A N Other - proven at lower level, but not in the Prem. Then the wild card someone like Gedo or Zaki - Bruce is an expert at recruiting decent left field signings. The another midfielder Palacios? A spare centre half or two and a couple of keepers. Providing of course we sign Elmo. Easy this building a team for the Prem! Striking and goal keeping most important - then some support and backup for midfield and defence.
I hope the club does things right this time and not sign players too old/mercenary/proven idiots, Odemwingie could fall into any of these categories.
The problem we have is getting decent strikers in and that's not just one, lets be honest we are properly the last in the line having just got promoted. Do we go for unproven strikers at premiership level such as Austin or do we go for premiership strikers who are past there best but still decent sometimes having to pay over the odds to get them here. We obviously want to compete but don't want to finish up with debts like we did last time. The other option is loans but again they are often not proven and in need of experience
