I see on Betfair there's a few quid left at 10s on MacLaren. I think that despite the poor England showing he's much underrated and he'll be the appointment to fear if they do go for him.

At the moment Sunderland on Betfair (http://www.betfair.com/exchange/football/market?id=1.109449485) are second favourites for the drop and a wise appointment by the Black Cats may make that price move out.

One team which has come in a little in price is West Ham. I've been trading them around the 12-14 mark (lay at 12s back at 14s) and now they're almost matching Newcastle's price for relegation.

One price that does look interesting there is that one can lay Norwich to go down at 3.9. I can see that price moving out slightly over the next week or so, so I may kick off with laying them at this price for a ton or so.

Just a few thoughts on the markets.

Take your gambling seriously, I have a bet on our games (almost always lose) but I don't study the form or anything, just normally a correct score / first player to score double.

Me? Not I. I live half way up a mountain where there's no road names (just the cottage name and postal town for the address), no street lights, nearest neighbour is somewhere down the muddy lane (4x4 recommended) and, more to the point, no uncouth footballers nor their tasteless mock Tudor homes. The internet is my lifeline to the Outside World. I find it's better to keep the rest of 'civilisation' at the other end of my broadband connection; it serves us both better that way.

I loosely use the word civilisation for the uncivilised populated areas where one has to lock the car and the front door at night.

Peace and tranquillity rather than rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous (and noisy) neighbours.

Just had a look on the Betfair market at the prices. Gus Poyet is slowly moving out, though still massively odds on. The next two in the market, both neck and neck, are Kevin Ball and Steve McClaren.

McClaren's price is about ten points lower than three or four days ago.

Tony Pulis all the way. I think we owe our six fingered a debt of gratitude for all the entertainment of the last week. Even in our darkest days they are always there to raise our spirits. Its like they are not willing to accept Mikes efforts to make us no.1 target for the medias fun time

I've always thought McLaren is massively underrated. Yes, he does have this persona of the clown about him, but he's no fool.

We've had parallel threads here about England and, frankly, not even Joe Kinnear in his mind's eye could get them to win anything. So I wouldn't dismiss McLaren on that account. We've had people here saying that Keegan was a decent club manager and he made a poor fist of England. We've had a handful of successful European managers come in and they all failed miserably at that job. So, I wouldn't put a black mark against McLaren; in fact, I would give him a gold star for having a go.

I think that McLaren would be a good call for Sunderland and for that reason alone I hope that Poyet gets the gig.

By the way, I have now effectively a free bet on McClaren at about 9/1 for £50, so nothing lost if he doesn't get the job and nice insurance if he does.

To be fair McClaren's club record is none too shabby. He was awful as England manager but he should never have been appointed, he didn't have the experience or knowledge. Fair play he has gone away and tried to ain more knowledge. He is a figure of fun thanks to the media and obviously we'd be duty bound to capitilise on that if he appeared in Blunderland. I don't think it would be that bad an appointment if the fans would accept him. WIthout the backing of their support you are up against the odds massively in terms of being a success.

Does that mean you're not going to invite me round for tea anytime soon...? <wah>

Pards is the only man for the England job.

Well... you say that... But putting on heavily accented broken English in a TV interview weeks after moving to a foreign country doesn't exactly make it hard for them, does it... I hope he goes there just to see him attempt the Mackem accent <ok>

Also, he picked Scott Carson... In a crucial qualifying game... SCOTT CARSON...

Literally his only redeemable feature as a human being is his ginger hair, because it means when he's finished attempting to be a football manager, he can put on a dress and amuse ACS for a bit...

I don't think that ACS is that easily amused.
