My understanding from here (I'm in the land of the World Cup 2018) is that he scored a fair few goals in his earlier in his career but has been written-off as prone to injury.

    But he's just a stop-gap for us.

Ah, that explains the unearthly timing of your post, GeraScores. I thought you must be having a bad night or something. As for Progrebnyak, we'll have to wait and see. Does anyone know if he's expected to have all the paperwork sorted in time for this weekend, or will QPR be his debut? Now that would give him the chance to make an instant impression (if we can count nearly a month after signing for us as 'instant'!)

Sarah Brookes has apparently tweeted that he's here and will train with the squad tomorrow. Saturday? Who knows but we'll need some beef up front.

It's from Chelsea Craving. It's Feed the Drog and he will score.

Seems like we get one big signing a year from Chairman Mo, Dembele two years ago and Ruiz this year. Whoever Jol gets, I suspect he'll cost between 10-12 million and disappoint during his first year.

Would you really count Dembele as a big signing? Didn't he cost around £5 million? Or did you mean big in terms of value to the team?

And it's originally from Man City, re: Shaun Goater (but with goat instead of d(r)og). Ah, Bandy, you're showing your callow youth again - that's probably before your time!

I have a friend who supports Birmingham who claims they used to sing 'feed the horse and he will score' about Geoff Horsfield, but that would have been later than the Shaun Goater version too.

CM - thanks for the endorsement. I was beginning to doubt myself with the young whippersnappers on the board!

Apparently the Pog trained with the team today and is keen to make his debut on Saturday. He has said all the right things (in Russian) about there being a great atmosphere at the training ground and everyone being v nice. He has been chatting in German to "a few of the guys" (Frei? Schwarzer? Kasami? Senderos maybe?) but realises he needs to learn (or improve) English asap.

Will be interesting to see if he plays - looks like he'd be good at taking on the larger members of the Stoke defence whilst Frei and Dempsey get behind them and score. [not sure if that's a prediction or a fantasy!]

Pardon my ignorance, but why would Schwarzer, Frei, Senderos and Kasami be able to speak German?

Jol obviously likes big boys - his other signings Riise Snr is the same height also, Kasami is only 1cm smaller and Gecov 6cm.

Oh, and Demps,at 1.87m, is pretty much the same height as well.

Get them all in against Stoke and just maybe we'll see our first headed goal of the season from a corner (or even a free kick). Always supposing there is someone out there who can actually cross the ball.

Schwarzer's family is German. The other three are Swiss where German is one of the official languages (along with French, Italian). Individual Swiss people tend to be multi-lingual. I seem to remember reading an interview with Senderos that said he was fluent in five languages.

It also listed reading theology as one of his hobbies. I wasn't sure whether that was genuine or whether Senderos was successfully winding up the reporter. Do they teach you to watch out for that in your Masters, Bandy, or is it all about how to hack mobile phones?
