It's a good thinking to sign him for 6 months. Initially at least. Give him time to prove himself and not get a contract to regret...
If Jol has only bought him as a stop gap, I don't see a major problem with this. If he's good, then brilliant and he can stay beyond the end of the season or will be remembered for a nice half a season contribution. If he's not that good, then we can let him go and then Jol has the whole summer to go out and find a strong long term replacement for zamora without paying inflated january prices. We should have more than enough to stay up with or without zamora, so I really don't think we should be too concerned if he doesn't appear to have adequately replaced. This season was always going to be a transitional season anyway. Time to get behind Pogrebnyak and the rest of the team for a good remainder of the season COYW!!!!
Furthermore, we should be relieved that another transfer window has passed with clint dempsey still a fulham player!
Until the summer I would think. Contract is up at the end of next season so unless he signs a new contract some time soon I think he'll be off for pastures new in the summer.
I would have preferred a striker to come in and get adjusted to both the player's and Jol's new tactics and formations for the rest of the season, ready for him to be firing on all cylinders come the start of next season, instead we have a player who most likely won't be here come seven months time, which will leave us having to find another striker who has to take time to adjust, and who the players will take time adjusting to themselves.
Anybody know if we spent money on him or was he a free transfer? If we spent money and only gave him a six month contract that's shocking!
I'm hearing £3 million, but there are different reports everywhere about it being a 6 month contract or a three year deal. This is the hook line and sinker though, his contract was up at the end of the season, so we have vastly overpaid, whatever it was.
Maybe Jol feels that Trotta can step up,lets see what happens over the next 2/3weeks. But if you do throw him on, give the lad more than your usual 10min
Yeah i'd love to see Trotta get games, even start 1 or 2 or maybe a half time sub when things aren't going too well. I hate how Jol waits so long to make changes. One of the only ones I remember where he got it right was making the half time substitution in the Newcastle game. Trotta could well start against WBA if Jol decides against Dempsey up front (which is unlikely). Pogrebnyak won't be registered in time and Sa is injured. Just leaves Trotta and AJ as the two available recognised strikers.
People who refuse to criticise Jol for today need to realise this ^ it also leaves us with a strike-force of AJ, Pog, Trotta and Sa. I will reserve judgement on Pog but the other three I don't expect to hit double figures this season. Taking nothing away from Trotta, he just isn't ready to make the grade, yet. I think Jol is putting all his eggs into Dempsey's basket hoping he can continue his fine form.
Dembele and Ruiz need to step up big time in terms of goal scoring. Dalla Valle is also another option although i'd rather not see him play too many games, I don't think he's up to it.
He is a strange one. At Liverpool he was being hailed as the new Torres, when Roy sold us him and the young Swedish bloke their fans were up in arms about it. Looks like old Woy was bang on the money there, apart from bringing in Konch that is. I think a lack of football here might have hampered him severely to be honest, I would have preferred to have seen him go out on loan to a Championship club instead of Dundee, sadly it looks as though he will only be a reserve for the time being.
Yeah I would have liked to see him go out on loan as soon as he came to us, half a season on Dundee's bench is hardly what we wanted for him. He did score 3 goals as a bit part player so maybe there's something to him. That Swedish bloke Kacanclik (spelling?) is after going out on loan to Watford for the rest of the season so it will be interesting to see how he does. I'm very pro-loan and anti-reserve when it comes to youngsters. I'd much rather see them get first team experience than reserve team experience.
Reserve team football can sometimes be beneficial, look at Briggs and Frei, neither of which have gone out on loan, but I agree that it is first team experience that makes the most difference to a player. He looked decent at Bournemouth last season, we should have pushed for a Championship loan or even to a better League One team, the standard of football would probably have been better in League One than the SPL anyway.
Fair's fair, Bandy, if you compare Dalla Valle's scoring record at Dundee Utd (or Bournemouth for that matter) he's at least on a par with Torres' for Chelsea. Maybe Liverpool were right in their initial assessment!
