To be perfectly honest, McShane is one player I wouldn’t pick a fight with. He gives the distinct impression of being able to take care of himself. I’ll always picture him as he ended his last match for us - bandaged head and leg “stitched up like a Christmas turkey” after Foul-o-matic ran over him, yet still giving it all for us.

I’ve said for a while now that we are missing some Irish and/or gingers in our squad as they seem to bring a bit of mettle. I mean, how many of our current lot would carry on the match with a smacked head and bloody great gash in the leg patched up with some running stitches and a load of tape?

I miss the days of Brady, Quinniesta, Macca and Meyler, with Corry Evans as well.

If that was after the clash of heads, McShane trotted back on with his head held together with half a roll of gaffer tape. Meanwhile the opposition player appeared to be trialling the thousand and one ways of bandaging a head wound. QPR maybe?

This rings a bell. His bandage kept coming off and didn't he end up getting substituted while McShane carried on undeterred?

That's not the game that brownbagtiger was talking about by the way. That one was against Man United in his last game for us. Fellaini took a chunk out of his leg with a stray sliding challenge but at the same time twatted McShane's head with his knee while following through. He did get sent off for it to be fair.
