I'd have to disagree but that discussion has been done to death on this board. Personally while I think he has had a poor season, there have been a multitude of factors which have brought about the current situation. Just as it was a combination of factors the previous year that got us such a high placed over achieving finish. That includes his management and tactics which were excellent.

It always is a combination of things in my view.

I'd prefer we looked longer term and allowed him the chance to learn from the mistakes this year. I don't agree with the modern way of giving up when you have bad season and just writing off all that's gone before, looking for quick fixes that do not exist.

Unfortunately for Pards, the modern way is what it is and therefore he'll be lucky to keep his job. The majority of fans dislike him (its got pretty personal now too) which means its probably an uphill struggle the board will feel he can't reverse. Once the crowd turn here, you are in real trouble as a manager.

Ok, so say we give him another season and allow him the chance to learn from his mistakes. At which point do we say enough is enough? If we go half the season and we are hovering around the bottom 3, surely it's too late and there's another season ruined?

We could give him a few games and see what happens, but didn't we have a decent start this season?

We could wit until January/ February and it may be too late, we may not end up escaping by the skin of our teeth next time.

We have the worst injury record around which is a contributing factor, but other stats are very worrying and point to the manager/ coaching staff. We've conceded the most goals, not scored many, never score from corners etc etc. As you say this has been done to death.

I understand your argument for stability, but I see little else in favor of keeping Pardew. Despite the injuries, we have a better squad than most/all teams in the bottom half, by that I mean more talent. Why are Stoke above us? Why are West Ham and Fulham above us? Even with a patched up team we should have more ability and consistency than we have had this season.

Agree, the Sunderland and liverpool game should have seen him sacked regardless of the other cock ups he has done week in week out.

Look at the facts the bloke is useless
If you see the other relagation teams and what they have at their disposal
It's embarrassing how we have been so bad

He should have been sacked after the Reading game. That is when people started turning. He was trying to defend a 1-0 lead at home against possibly the worst team in the Premier League.

no point in plodding along for the next few years in the name of stability. bring in a big name manager within reason with modern ideas and stick with him. but the next manager cannot let the side go anywhere near a relegation fight a bad season needs to be bottom half but safe.

Ok so what happens if he repeats the successes of the first season and gets us back on track? You're discounting that altogether on the basis of two seasons evidence. One a massive over achievement with football which was good to watch, excellent when Cisse was in that run of form. One which has been a disaster and massive underachievement with some terrible football to watch. Its undoubtedly a short term view whichever way we look at it.

I don't believe you become a bad manager in one season and everyone was happy with him at the end of the season we finished 5th. Yes he like the players and board has had a poor season. He's made some really poor decisions. He's not the first and won't be the last. I just think we're forever destined to continually chop and change unless we find a manager who never has a poor season. Those managers don't exist.

I would be happy with Rafa think we could be top 6-8 side consistently with him. With Everton losing Moyes and Lpool being inconsistent think the opportunity is there.

Rafa Benitez

Modern? Not at all. Negative, tactical and loves tinkering. Plays players out of position a fair bit too. Don't get me wrong he's a good manager with a good track record but it sounds a match made in hell with our support! Very much doubt we'd pay the wages either.

It appears it's only Norma Snockers and the mackem population who hopes Pardew will stay. Everyone else can see he is tactless and needs replacing with a new manager.

I bet he was tactically ok by the majority who now say otherwise in his first season though...................

Tinkering as many call it is vital, players burn out quickly if played at every opportunity and also encourages injuries. Most managers utilize players but Rafa certainly wouldn't go to the extremes of playing a box to box midfielder in an advanced wing position. Regarding calling him "negative" if he was that negative he wouldn't even have a sniff of the 8 trophy's he has won.

Mr snookers You make some really valid points and I see it from that point of view
However my opinion on pardew is last season we had a small squad of players which virtual picked its self Which was helped by the lack of injuries.

On to this season I will defend him for the earlier part of the season when Ashley shafted us by not adding to a already small squad.

Pardew's first mistake was to try and
Panda to ba meaning we changed a winning formula for a player we all knew was going to walk.

Learning from mistakes, we get battered by united then three data later we lose 7 at arsenal all in one week

When did we last score from a corner ? When did we win a game we are losing at half time ?
This highlights he can't change what is wrong, he has continued to play players out of position but what is the worse part is he can't get the players up for big games and lost the dressing room months ago.

If we go down how daft will he look by shouting his mouth off after the saints
Home win stating we are 100% safe end of chat

If we want to keep top players he must
Go.

I am all for longevity but I am more for us staying in the premiership year in year out

Negative is probably a bit unfair but undoubtedly safety first. You only have to look at the first few weeks at Chelsea. Immediately decided that Oscar, Mata and Hazard could not all be played all at the same time. Good manager but I expect would end up with fans on his back as he has at most places, including Liverpool where he was loved at one time. Moot point really because Ashley would be highly unlikely to stump up the cash. What if Rafa has a slump like at Inter or Liverpool though? Do you sack him and look for another?

Last season was great, but I was a little nervous about the fact that the majority of our wins where pretty ugly. I was hoping he would be tactful throughout this season and maybe we would have finished with over 50 points, but he wasn't.

I don't know, we were anything but ugly through March and April. We were great to watch against Stoke, Man U, Bolton, Blackburn too. Don't me wrong we were never as good as the top 6. But then regardless what some fans think, we don't have the squad those teams have.

Think you can't ignore that he is defensive first of all. but when you say things go wrong I think his version of wrong will be no where near Pardew's or some of the previous managers we have had I think the lowest he finished with Lpool was 7th which we would be happy with. I do think he would command high wages but Ashley should now have realised that he needs to pay more for quality and he wont want a repeat of this season.

All relative though 7th after winning the CL at a club like Liverpool is probably a lower table finish at a club like us

yeah true but they haven't tasted champions league since he left so it shows how well he did at the end he they did decline but maybe like all clubs they expected 2 much I think all that experience at bigger clubs with the players he is managed would help us a great deal. TBH honest anyone that has a clue, who is not Alan Pardew would do for me right now

Unfortunately there is always the chance with Ashley that it's better the monster you know... When Keegan left he appointed Kinnear. When he sacked Hughton he appointed Pardew. Pardew goes who's to say it will be someone who has a clue?!

I agree that of the names that have been bandied around - Benitez, Gourcuff, Blanc, Poyet, Zola, Girard, Bielsa... They'd all be exciting choices. Purely going on Ashley's past record though it seems more likely we land Steve McClaren, Mark Hughes or similar.

Or the return of Graeme Souness <yikes>
